Dear Family and Friends,
My young friend, Andrea, is in urgent need of funds for college! For food specifically.
Our higher education system gives loans, scholarships, and financial aid for students to help with college costs, and yet, colleges rarely cover the cost of food. This leaves many college students with difficult decisions, and they often go hungry. Some students end up dropping out to work instead.
Andrea is hard working, and determined to become a Clinical Psychologist to help students and young adults succeed in life! She has survived our community colleges and now has transferred to a four year college in Northern California. This is a huge accomplishment and I'm so proud of her!
-She pushed through 2+ hours a day of commute time on public buses.
-She worked around a busy home life, while helping younger siblings, which made it difficult to study.
-Like me, college didn't come easy for Andrea. She worked harder.
-She navigating her own way around our complicated school system because her parents were unable to help.
A glitch in her financial aid (due to an error by the college) has left her unable to apply for work study programs on campus, which was her plan for covering food costs. The dorm cafeteria program costs $2000 per semester and would allow Andrea to focus exclusively on her studies during this crucial first semester at her new school.
Please consider giving whatever you can and know that you are doing something good for the world by helping this dedicated and compassionate young person!
Thank you!
