"FEED A CHILD" Prevent Malnutrition in children

The "Feed a Child" program aims at providing families of children below 5 years of age with a high risk of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) with supplementary food baskets.

USD 17 provides a food basket with balanced nutrition for one child for a month, whilst USD 100 will ensure 6 months of support for the child.

With the prevailing economic crisis, more than 1/3rd of Sri Lanka’s population is facing food insecurity and it is predicted to have a significant rise in malnutrition rates among children in Sri Lanka. This campaign is part of a larger campaign to prevent the dire effects of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) occurring in children below 5 years in Sri Lanka.

The growth of the children will be monitored with the objective of these children being shifted to the moderate malnutrition category during the next 6 months rather than deteriorating to more severe forms of malnutrition such as marasmus and kwashiorkor. 

The first phase of the project was launched in the Nuwara Eliya district with prevailing high rates of malnutrition by the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians to prevent the re-emergence of more severe forms of undernutrition and its associated complications have a direct impact on child mortality. The first round of sponsorship from Raise Sri Lanka is for 150 children with severe acute malnutrition in the Bogowanthalawa, Maskeliya, and part of the Ambagamuwa MOH areas

Our monthly members have managed to raise over USD 3,000 for the project in the past few months and You can sponsor and save a child with a recurring donation each month of USD 17 or USD 100 for 6 months.
