Who is The School Food Project?
The School Food Project is a not-for-profit initiative led by chefs, nutritionists, educators and hospitality experts, working to transform food in schools—equitably, sustainably, and deliciously.
The “Eat well, Feel well, Learn well” Lunch Program
In 2024, we partnered with Berrima Public School and proudly launched a NSW-first School Lunch Program. For almost 2 years now, every student, teacher and volunteer at the school has enjoyed morning tea and a freshly cooked, nutritious meal each day—prepared by a chef in the school kitchen.
It has been an exciting journey of growth, innovation, and community spirit. The school has made incredible strides in providing nourishing meals and educational experiences for their students. They have created a healthy eating culture where children are nourished, included, and ready to learn.
Help Us Keep the Lunch Program Thriving — and Create Change Across Australia
For these two years, the Berrima community has rallied to bring healthy, delicious lunches to every student. Their generosity and resourcefulness has been extraordinary — but as a small community, they cannot sustain the program alone.
To keep the program running in 2026, we urgently need support to cover:
• Chef wages: Currently funded entirely by community and philanthropic donations. We are collecting the evidence needed to secure long-term government investment, but we need a bridge to get there.
• Rising food costs: Maintaining high-quality meals while supporting the 10% of families who cannot contribute the full $5 per meal is becoming increasingly difficult.
Your investment goes further than a single school.
Berrima is a pioneering model — a template for a future where nutritious school lunches are available to every Australian child. It will inform future programs in NSW as part of a Flinders University-led ARC Linkage Project evaluating school-provided meals across NSW, SA and Tasmania—your support fuels both real meals and real research.
By supporting Berrima, you are:
✅ Keeping children fed and included
✅ Strengthening community connection
✅ Building the case for lasting change
✅ Helping create a model that benefits thousands more students
Be part of the shift. Help us turn a successful pilot into a national movement.
All donations over $2 are tax deductible.
