My name is Emily and I am Canadian university student raising funds on behalf of a Yemeni family of 19 [out of which 11 are children below the age of 12] facing the troubles of what UNICEF considers to be the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. Added to the civil war that has been ongoing since 2014 with the US's and Saudi's financing is also Israel's recent continuous bombings in Hudaida and Sanaa, specifically targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
The Alabdli family, residing in the site of intensive bombings in Sanaa, is currently struggling to afford daily meals and is living from hand to mouth counting solely on the 4 brothers's activity as fruit sellers. Each of the brothers is married and has three children, except that one of the little girls was unable to make it through the past year. She was affected by an unspecified disease paralyzing her legs that went undiagnosed as her parents weren't able to afford treatment.
Due to the child population's malnutrition and lack of hygienic services and products, infections and diseases as Diphtheria, that should be easily preventable, run wild causing permanent damage in their development. According to UNICEF, an estimated 2.2 million children in Yemen are acutely malnourished, including 540,000 children under the age of five suffering from severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
If for whatever reason the brothers are unable to work one day, the family will not manage to eat the following day. This fruit-selling job is precarious: it rarely earns enough to live on, and there’s no guarantee they will have enough customers to feed them for the day. At the present moment they already have trouble with providing three basic daily meals, and in the midst of this, they must pay rent (approx 500$ a month) which is already causing conflicts with their landlord as they are barely able to keep up with it.
A 5$ dollar donation in Yemen has an extraordinarily higher purchasing power than it could ever have in the US and any other western country. This means that if everyone reading was to sacrifice only one 5$ item, this family's condition would be completely upturned and the children could always go to sleep after a full meal.
Your contribution will give this family hope, a chance to rebuild their lives, and a brighter future for their children. Every dollar counts. Let's come together to offer a lifeline to this deserving family. Your compassion can transform their lives.
