Feed 1,000 Dogs: Sunshine Animal Refuge
I volunteer for a pioneering animal shelter in Morocco, Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir. We're the largest animal shelter charity in a country with a horrific problem when it comes to dog welfare. From state-sponsored shootings, mass poisonings, or barbaric acts of human cruelty the circumstances for dogs here are terrifying.
As a charity, we care for these animals through the support from people like you; on donations alone. We've rescued, and currently shelter, 1,200 animals, primarily dogs. Due to a tightening of the proverbial belt for people during the pandemic, we've experienced a drop in regular donations, and frighteningly this month we're about to run out of food to feed them, for the first time in our history. We've been trying our regular avenues of fundraising to fill the coffers and get them what they need to survive but it's slow process, hence this last-ditch personal attempt.
It costs £7,924 every single month to feed our animals. That's 400 kilos of dog food a day across our three shelters. With your help and support, we can stop these animals from starving and get them the food they so urgently need. We have just two days of food remaining.
We're continuing efforts to get our monthly donations back up to avoid this situation in March, however, the present crisis is so severe I felt there was no other option but to appeal to you, good people.
