Oshawa’s Oldest Church

In January 2019, Simcoe St. United Church commenced on a major restoration, repair, and maintenance project, to preserve this beautiful building at the heart of the city of Oshawa.

Founded in 1817, Simcoe Street United Church has served the city of Oshawa from the Historical Church building since it was constructed in 1867, caring and supporting families and the needs of Oshawa and its neighboring communities for over 153 years.

Simcoe Street is not just a Church, it is a home and beacon of hope to so many and has a positive impact on the community.

We are the meeting place for 30+ organizations within our community, many of which are non-for-profit. It provides space for The Back-Door Mission for the Relief of Poverty, and the Murray McKinnon Foundation.

We host benefit concerts, choirs, shows, and events, often by a donation of choice entry, maintaining financial inclusiveness for all.

We help celebrate many of life’s important milestones such as weddings, baptisms, funerals, celebrations of life, and so much more.

Simcoe Street United Church is also the home of a grateful congregation, who is passionate and dedicated to their mission and service work within our community and beyond.

The restoration of this historic building:

Will continue to allow more community and non-profit groups, families, and individuals to benefit from its preservation, and affordable community resources for generations to come.

Will continue to allow us to service Oshawa’s homeless and mental health crisis.

Will benefit small local business owners, musicians and artists, as they look to recover from the pandemic set backs, and new economic realities they face, by providing opportunities to rise back up and a cost effective space to host concerts, events and other community events in the future, beyond this current crisis.

Will continue to unite the community and be there to support you, a family, a friend, in times of joy, sorrow or uncertainty.

BUT we need your help, more so now than ever! The current world pandemic has halted our fundraising efforts, events, and income. We can no longer withstand the financial cost of this major restoration project alone.
