Hello everyone,

we are Viola Parlanti and Flavia D'Amico. We’re filmmakers in the Media Design & Multimedia Arts course at NABA. We are directing and producing our thesis short film "FEE", a raw, emotional coming-of-age drama set in Stuttgart, Germany.

A spontaneous night out leads Faye, a naive teen, into the chaos of a new crowd and forms an unexpected bond with Jinx, who has already endured the loss of innocence that Faye is only beginning to face.

Synopsis

FEE is a short coming-of-age film set over the course of one restless night in Stuttgart. When Faye, a sheltered teenager, unexpectedly reunites with her childhood friend Maya, she is pulled into a whirlwind of stolen moments, new faces, and reckless energy. At Maya’s side, Faye encounters a tight-knit group of friends and is especially drawn to Jinx, magnetic yet guarded, carrying the weight of experiences Faye has not yet faced.

As the night unravels from an escape, to a chaotic apartment, to the blur of the city, the story splinters into two perspectives: Faye, swept up in the euphoria of music and freedom, and Jinx, confronting the darker side of survival in a tense encounter with a dealer. Their paths collide again in the chaos of the club, where Faye’s exhilaration meets Jinx’s vulnerability, exposing the fragile contrast between innocence and experience.

What begins as playful rebellion becomes a turning point, as the two girls slip away from the noise to share an intimate moment of quiet connection. By the time dawn approaches, a small, symbolic act reveals that Faye will never return to the girl she was at the start of the night.

It is easy to forget how fragile and pure our teenage years are. Full of questions, drama, hope, exaggeration, fear for the

future and understanding of who we are. But at the same time, these difficult moments of realization shape the people we

become.

Fast and Intense, the tone follows the way the group live life. No responsibilities, free, rebellious, impulsive, risky, and care free. Whilst

comparing to the isolated, cautious, controlled and introspective life that Faye is detaching from.

Director's Statement

Growing up, constant movement shaped my understanding of connection. Friendships were often fleeting, tied to places I would eventually leave behind. When I moved to Stuttgart as a pre-teen, I met someone who unexpectedly became my first true best friend. Despite our differences, her confidence and boldness contrasting with my lack of experience and awkwardness, we formed a bond that defined a pivotal chapter in my adolescence.

Together with a group of friends, we began testing boundaries, drawn to the thrill of rebellion and the need to feel older than we were. What started as innocent curiosity quickly turned into riskier behavior, nights out, parties, moments of recklessness. At that age, everything felt heightened, dramatic, and permanent.

This short film is a reflection of that time, the intensity of early friendships, the loss of innocence, and the search for identity amidst chaos.

While the experiences were far from ideal, they shaped my perspective and continue to inform the stories I want to tell: ones that sit in the messy, raw, and often misunderstood space of youth.

I want to tell the story of running after that adrenaline rush, with pure intent until reality and adulthood smacks us across the face. And the world we viewed as kids is forever changes.

Producer's Statement

I enthusiastically accepted Viola Parlanti's proposal to produce her story Fee. From the very first reading of the screenplay, I realized how powerful and meaningful it was, even though the story seemed quite distant from my personal experience. What struck me deeply was the portrayal of a gradual awakening, the subtle yet profound passage that separates childhood from adulthood. The protagonist undergoes an inner transformation over time, a shift that slowly reshapes the way she sees the world.

This theme touched me deeply because I, too, have lived through a similar experience, an event that marked a clear divide between before and after in my life. At twelve, I faced the loss of my father, who died from cancer. I still vividly remember the evening when my mother, with simple but definitive words, told me, "Dad is no longer here." In that moment, I felt something inside me break, and over the following days, weeks, and months, a new awareness began to take shape.

From that time on, my perception of the world changed progressively. The sense of protection typical of childhood gradually gave way to a harsher, more complex reality, in which I had to learn to face pain and loss. Even though ten years have passed since that moment, the memory of that period remains vivid within me. Just like Faye in the story, I went through a transformation, there was a clear before and after, an invisible line marking my growth, even if it was traced slowly rather than in a single night. This resonance between my experience and that of the protagonist made the story of Fee even more meaningful to me, allowing me to see myself in that inner journey and find, between the pages of the screenplay, a reflection of my own path.

Sinossi

Fee è un cortometraggio di formazione ambientato nel corso di una notte inquieta a Stoccarda. Quando Faye, un’adolescente sempre protetta dai suoi genitori, si riunisce inaspettatamente con la sua amica d’infanzia Maya, viene trascinata in un vortice di attimi rubati, nuovi volti ed energia sfrenata. Al fianco di Maya, Faye incontra un gruppo di amici molto uniti e resta particolarmente attratta da Jinx, magnetica ma riservata, che porta con sè il peso di una esperienza che Faye non ha ancora vissuto.

Mentre la notte evolve da una fuga, a un appartamento caotico, alla complessità della realtà, la storia si divide in due prospettive: Faye, travolta dall’euforia della musica e della libertà, e Jinx, che affronta il lato oscuro della sopravvivenza in un teso incontro con uno spacciatore. I loro cammini si rincrociano nel caos di un club, dove l’euforia di Faye si intreccia alla vulnerabilità di Jinx, evidenziando il fragile contrasto tra innocenza ed esperienza.

Quello che inizia come una ribellione giocosa diventa un punto di svolta, e le due ragazze si allontanano dal rumore per condividere un momento di tranquilla connessione. Quando si avvicina l’alba, un piccolo atto simbolico rivela che Faye non tornerà più la ragazza che era all’inizio della serata.

Tutti hanno un momento nel quale perdono l’innocenza. Per ognuno è diverso, ma per tutti è un momento trasformativo e significativo nella propria vita.

Vogliamo dimostrare quanto velocemente la transizione della perdita d’innocenza possa essere. È facile dimenticarsi quanto fragile e puri siano gli anni dell’adolescenza. Pieni di domande, drammi, speranze, esagerazioni e paure del futuro. Allo stesso tempo, questi momenti difficili di realizzazione creano le persone che diventeremo.

Tono

Veloce e intenso, il tono segue il modo in cui il gruppo vive la vita. Senza responsabilità, libero, ribelle, impulsivo, azzardato e spensierato. Mentre la vita da cui Faye si sta distaccando è isolata, cauta, controllata e introspettiva.

Ispirazione

Dichiarazione del Regista

Crescendo, il continuo traslocare ha plasmato il mio modo di vedere i legami. Le amicizie duravano poco, legate a posti che alla fine lasciavo dietro di me. Quando mi sono trasferita a Stoccarda da preadolescente, ho incontrato qualcuno che, inaspettatamente, è diventata la mia prima vera migliore amica. Eravamo molto diverse, lei sicura di sé e spavalda, io impacciata e inesperta, ma tra noi si è creato un legame che ha segnato una parte importante della mia adolescenza.

Con un gruppo di amici abbiamo iniziato a testare i limiti, spinti dal brivido della ribellione e dal desiderio di sentirci più grandi. Quella che era solo curiosità innocente si è presto evoluta in comportamenti più rischiosi: uscite di notte, feste, momenti di pura incoscienza. A quell’età, tutto sembrava enorme, drammatico, definitivo.

Questo corto è uno sguardo su quel periodo: l’intensità delle prime amicizie, la perdita dell’innocenza, la ricerca di sé in mezzo al caos.

Anche se quelle esperienze non sono state del tutto positive, mi hanno formato e continuano a influenzare le storie che voglio raccontare: storie che vivono in quello spazio disordinato, crudo e spesso frainteso della gioventù.

Voglio raccontare la corsa verso quell’adrenalina, vissuta con tutta la sincerità del momento, fino a quando la realtà e l’età adulta non ti piombano addosso all’improvviso. E il mondo che da bambini ci sembrava immutabile cambia per sempre.

Dichiarazione del Produttore

Ho accolto con entusiasmo la proposta di Viola di produrre la sua storia Fee. Fin dalla prima lettura della sceneggiatura ho capito quanto fosse potente e significativa, anche se apparentemente lontana dalla mia esperienza personale. Ciò che mi ha colpito profondamente è stata la rappresentazione di un risveglio, quel passaggio sottile ma profondo che separa l’infanzia dall’età adulta. La protagonista vive una trasformazione interiore, un cambiamento che ridefinisce il suo modo di vedere il mondo.

Questo tema mi ha toccato nel profondo perché anch’io ho attraversato un’esperienza simile, un evento che ha segnato una netta linea di confine tra un “prima” e un “dopo” nella mia vita. A dodici anni ho affrontato la perdita di mio padre, morto di cancro. Ricordo ancora vividamente la sera in cui mia madre, con parole semplici ma definitive, mi disse: 'Papà non c’è più.' In quell’istante ho sentito qualcosa spezzarsi dentro di me e, nei giorni, nelle settimane e nei mesi successivi, ha iniziato a formarsi in me una nuova consapevolezza.

Da quel momento la mia percezione del mondo è cambiata progressivamente. Il senso di protezione tipico dell’infanzia ha lasciato spazio a una realtà più dura e complessa, in cui ho dovuto imparare ad affrontare il dolore e la perdita. Anche se sono passati dieci anni da allora, il ricordo di quel periodo resta vivido dentro di me. Proprio come Faye nella storia, ho attraversato una trasformazione: c’è stato un chiaro “prima” e un “dopo”, una linea invisibile che ha segnato la mia crescita, anche se tracciata lentamente e non in una sola notte.

Questa risonanza tra la mia esperienza e quella della protagonista ha reso la storia di Fee ancora più significativa per me, permettendomi di rivedere me stessa in quel percorso interiore e di ritrovare, tra le pagine della sceneggiatura, il riflesso del mio stesso cammino.

Synopsis

An Mayas Seite begegnet Faye einer eingeschworenen Clique und fühlt sich besonders zu Jinx hingezogen, charismatisch und zugleich verschlossen, gezeichnet von Erfahrungen, die Faye noch bevorstehen.

Während sich die Nacht von einer Flucht über ein chaotisches Apartment bis hin zum verschwommenen Treiben der Stadt entfaltet, teilt sich die Geschichte in zwei Blickwinkel: Faye, berauscht von Musik und dem Gefühl grenzenloser Freiheit und Jinx, die in einer angespannten Begegnung mit einem Dealer mit der dunkleren Seite des Überlebens konfrontiert wird.

Ihre Wege kreuzen sich erneut im Chaos des Clubs, wo Fayes Euphorie auf Jinx’ Verletzlichkeit trifft und das zerbrechliche Spannungsfeld zwischen Unschuld und Erfahrung sichtbar wird.

Was als spielerische Rebellion beginnt, entwickelt sich zu einem Wendepunkt, als die beiden Mädchen dem Lärm entfliehen und einen intimen Moment stiller Verbundenheit teilen. Als die Morgendämmerung hereinbricht, macht eine kleine, symbolische Geste deutlich, dass Faye nie wieder zu dem Mädchen zurückkehren wird, das sie zu Beginn der Nacht war.

Statement der Regisseurin

Aufgewachsen mit ständigem Umziehen hat mein Verständnis von Verbindung stark geprägt. Freundschaften waren oft flüchtig, verknüpft mit Orten, die ich schlussendlich wieder hinter mir ließ. Als ich als Kind nach Stuttgart zog, lernte ich jemanden kennen, der unerwartet zu meiner ersten wahren besten Freundin wurde. Trotz unserer Unterschiede, ihre Selbstsicherheit und Kühnheit im Kontrast zu meiner Unerfahrenheit und Unsicherheit, entwickelten wir eine Bindung, die ein prägendes Kapitel meiner Jugend bestimmte.

Gemeinsam mit einer Gruppe von Freund*innen begannen wir, Grenzen auszutesten. Angezogen vom Nervenkitzel des Rebellierens und dem Wunsch, älter zu sein als wir wirklich waren. Was als harmlose Neugier begann, verwandelte sich schnell in riskanteres Verhalten: Nächte draußen, Partys, Momente der Unbesonnenheit. In diesem Alter fühlte sich alles intensiv, dramatisch und endgültig an.

Dieser Kurzfilm ist eine Reflexion über genau diese Zeit, die Intensität früher Freundschaften, den Verlust der Unschuld und die Suche nach Identität mitten im Chaos.

Auch wenn diese Erfahrungen alles andere als ideal waren, haben sie meine Perspektive geformt und beeinflussen bis heute die Geschichten, die ich erzählen möchte. Geschichten, die in dem rohen, chaotischen und oft missverstandenen Raum der Jugend spielen.

Ich möchte die Geschichte davon erzählen, wie wir diesem Adrenalinkick hinterherrennen, mit reiner Absicht, bis uns die Realität und das Erwachsenwerden ins Gesicht schlagen. Und die Welt, wie wir sie als Kinder sahen, sich für immer verändert.

Statement der Produzentin

Mit großer Begeisterung habe ich Viola Parlantis Vorschlag angenommen, ihre Geschichte Fee zu produzieren. Schon beim ersten Lesen des Drehbuchs wurde mir klar, wie kraftvoll und bedeutungsvoll es ist auch wenn die Geschichte auf den ersten Blick weit von meiner eigenen Erfahrung entfernt schien. Besonders berührt hat mich die Darstellung eines allmählichen Erwachens, jenes subtilen, aber tiefgreifenden Übergangs, der Kindheit und Erwachsensein voneinander trennt. Die Protagonistin durchläuft eine innere Wandlung, die ihre Sicht auf die Welt Schritt für Schritt verändert.

Dieses Thema hat mich stark bewegt, weil auch ich eine ähnliche Erfahrung gemacht habe, ein Ereignis, das mein Leben klar in ein Davor und Danach geteilt hat. Mit zwölf Jahren habe ich meinen Vater an Krebs verloren. Ich erinnere mich noch genau an den Abend, als meine Mutter mir mit schlichten, aber endgültigen Worten sagte: „Papa ist nicht mehr da.“ In diesem Moment fühlte ich, wie etwas in mir zerbrach und in den Tagen, Wochen und Monaten danach begann sich langsam ein neues Bewusstsein in mir zu formen.

Seit diesem Moment hat sich meine Wahrnehmung der Welt nach und nach verändert. Das Gefühl der Geborgenheit, das die Kindheit prägt, wich allmählich einer härteren, komplexeren Realität, in der ich lernen musste, mit Schmerz und Verlust umzugehen. Auch wenn inzwischen zehn Jahre vergangen sind, bleibt die Erinnerung an diese Zeit lebendig in mir.

So wie Faye in der Geschichte habe auch ich eine tiefgreifende Verwandlung durchlebt, mit einem ein klaren Davor und Danach, eine unsichtbare Linie, die mein Erwachsenwerden markierte, auch wenn sie sich nicht in einer einzigen Nacht, sondern langsam und schrittweise zog. Diese Resonanz zwischen meiner Erfahrung und der der Protagonistin hat Fee für mich noch bedeutungsvoller gemacht. Sie erlaubt mir, mich selbst in dieser inneren Reise wiederzuerkennen und in den Seiten des Drehbuchs ein Spiegelbild meines eigenen Weges zu finden.
