Help George Restore his Health!

Hi there, my name is Andrea and this is a story about love, cancer and health restoration. If you know George, you know there are no strangers to him, just friends he hasn’t met yet. His infectious smile, zest for life and warmth endears him to people quickly and he is grateful for the life and love he enjoys each day. Because George is truly a one in a million guy, he just happens to have this incredibly rare disease. He was diagnosed with Von Hippel Lindau Disease (VHL) at the young age of 25. VHL is a rare, inherited disorder that causes tumors and cysts to grow in certain parts of the body. The tumors are usually benign (not cancer), but some may be malignant (cancer).

George is now 56 years old and has been battling VHL most of his life. He has been part of a clinical trial at the National Institutes of Health for the past 30 years. Until recently, his tumors have been operable. Over the past 20 years, George had eight surgeries to remove tumors. Sadly, the disease has recently progressed into metastatic renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) and can no longer be treated surgically. This has forced him to move on to systemic therapy (chemotherapy and immunotherapy) to treat the disease.

Outside of VHL disease, George has been in impeccable health his whole life and has been committed to doing all he can holistically to remain healthy. He loves to lift weights, play pickleball and play ball with our dog Frankie. He has been 100% committed to fighting his disease with his health. He started systemic treatment the summer of 2022 and had really great results - it shrunk his tumors by 50%. However, the chemotherapy has wreaked havoc on his health, destroying his microbiome, energy and muscle mass. In short, fighting this disease has ruined his good health.

This is also a love story. George and I met 6 years ago, after both going through very difficult circumstances and divorce. It was love at first sight. We were married in 2021 and have been truly blissfully happy - life does give you second chances. God had his hand in our story from the get go! In an effort to regain his health and move forward with a good quality of life (I’d like to keep him around for a very long time), we have been researching more natural, non-toxic treatments for his cancer. Fortunately, there are lots of proven therapies that treat cancer, shrink tumors and help you maintain your health. For example, high dose IV vitamin therapy and hyperbaric oxygen treatments. Unfortunately, big pharma cannot hold patents on these therapies and they are not covered by insurance! It’s very sad that insurance will cover hundreds of thousands of dollars of toxic cancer treatment but won’t cover these holistic treatments/IV vitamin therapy that have been researched and studied by some of the best cancer institutes in our country, including NIH, MD Anderson and Mayo Clinic.

Thankfully, we have learned that George can do many of these treatments right here in Minneapolis under the supervision of Integrative MDs and in conjunction with traditional therapies. The best part is that his oncologist is on board for him to do both. One year of integrative cancer therapies cost over $50,000 - or about $4500 a month. 100% of the money donated will go towards paying for these integrative therapies. While this is a difficult chapter, we believe we have many more happy chapters ahead left to write. The support and encouragement of our friends and family has meant the world to us and that is why we are coming to ask for your help now.
