My name is Terry Kifer. I was Mike's manager and good friend at our workplace for 33 years. We worked as construction inspectors. Mike was getting up there in age, 67, But kept working circles around the younger guys. Mike did not have much family around besides one niece,Tracy, Who he would visit occasionally down in Delaware. Most of us at work were his family and we tried to help and take care of him. Even in his last year when he was on back to back disabilities from old car accidents, he would stop by just to check in and say hello. Mike would help anyone, anytime he could, and not ask for a penny from anyone. He spent many years in the Army and finished up as a drill sergeant. When I first met him back in 1986, He was still putting in his weekend warier time with the army. Mike was not a rich man and did not make a lot at our job, but he got by and was always happy.
Sadly, Mike passed away from natural causes back on March,26, 2020. His niece Tracy, did not have the money to have mike a memorial or to bury him. She found out that Mike had a life insurance policy, which would have been great and then I would not have been writing this. Turns out that the life insurance was void because of a fine print condition that was a little shady. End result was, at no fault of Mike, The insurance company would not pay. In the mean time, The niece Tracy had already set up and had a viewing/memorial through the Philadelphia funeral home that had buried Mike's parents many years prior and was in the same neighborhood that Mike grew up in. The funeral home was nice enough to get it done without the money up front and would wait for the insurance money. Now because the insurance company will not pay, The niece Tracy is responsible for the money owed to the funeral home. We are only trying to get the amount owed to the funeral home, which is $3,898.00, And a little extra for the niece to see if we can get Mike ashes buried at a veterans cemetery. I am taking responsibility over the funds collected as to assure that the funeral home is paid and what ever more we can do for Mike. No more and no less.
