On February 28, 2022, my beloved mother and best friend, Rokia Adam, suffered a massive brain hemorrhage in our home in Phoenix, Arizona. She was immediately transferred by helicopter to the nearest hospital, where she underwent an emergency surgery. Since her surgery, she has been in a coma.
In the last week, she has shown hopeful signs of recovery, opening her eyes and moving her feet. She needs time to heal, but the hospital is unwilling to keep her longer due to a lack of insurance coverage.
Our only option to give her a fighting chance at recovery is to transfer her to a private long term care facility, which we would have to pay for out of pocket. However, the costs of these facilities are prohibitively high. Our hope is to raise enough to cover the costs of two months of stay to start. Her condition is critical, and we urgently need your generous help.
About my mother, Rokia
My mother has endured her fair share of hardship for many years. Three years ago, in 2019, she lost her daughter, my sister Shaymaa, in a tragic accident in which she was killed by gunshot. Since then, she has taken care of her two grandsons, who view her as their mom, while coping with her grief. My mother would want to be given every opportunity to be able to continue to raise her two grandsons and see them grow and flourish into amazing young men. This is all she wanted.
My mom is one of the most hard working, kind, and loving people you’ll ever meet. She has always bent over backwards to help people – this is what she has long been known for among her friends and our Muslim communities in the San Francisco Bay area where we grew up and in Phoenix where we’ve lived the last 12 years.
We ask for your financial support and prayers for my mother’s speedy recovery and our family’s patience and strength during this difficult time. Any money raised will go to medical expenses. We will keep you posted on her recovery.
Thank you greatly.
