Lisa is 45 years old, has been married 20 years this October! And has 2 wonderful teenagers.
In 2010 Lisa was diagnosed with a GIST, (gastrointestinal strombal tumors), When the tumor was removed we found out it had been cancerous. They removed half of her stomach, spleen, part of her pancreas and part of her intestines. Due to the cancerous nature of the tumor, she needed to take an oral chemotherapy drug called Gleevec. She did not tolerate this drug well. She was forced to spend 2-3 days a week in bed because of the pain and how tired it made her. As a result, she was unable to keep a job. The Gleevec was VERY expensive, it cost $500.00 a month. Between the Geevec and the medical bills, this family was under financial stress.
Fast forward to 2014, at a routine check up, after a yearly CT scan, the oncologist discovered that Lisa has numerous tumors. A needle biopsy confirmed that the tumors are cancerous. Because of the number of tumors and their placement they can not be removed with surgery. The only option at this time is a new experimental drug called Sutent. This drug has a 50% success rate of keeping the tumors from growing any bigger. Lisa is in a great deal of pain, the drugs she has to take; Fentanyl, Vicodin, oxycodene, dilantin, and many more, prevent her from being able to drive and work and live a productive life. She has no quality of life.
I am sponsoring Lisa and her family in this time of distress because we have been best friends for 27 years. I have been with her through the good times and unfortunately, now I'll be with her through the bad.
Please HELP ME, HELP THEM! Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will help Lisa and her family deal with the financial stresses, so they can focus their energies on spending as much time together as possible and beating this cancer!
