Help Support Asylum Seekers

Donation protected
In this picture is my goddaughter. For privacy reasons, I am not identifying her or her family, but I can tell her story. Twenty years ago, I was a missionary, posted in her neighborhood, and was asked by this spunky ten-year-old to be her godfather when she was about to be baptized. Over the years we lost touch with one another until she found me on Facebook a couple of months ago.

Now an adult with a husband and small child, my goddaughter is seeking asylum in the United States due to the difficult situation in her home country. They had an arduous journey crossing several countries, walking through the jungle, dealing with illness and were even robbed by a cartel before reaching the southern border. She and her family entered the country legally last week, and following the proper procedure presented themselves at the border for asylum. They are currently staying in a motel near me and awaiting an asylum hearing in a couple of months.

Because of the process, there is no legal way to work during this time period, however, there are still costs to support a family. While we are exploring multiple resources, they do need help with all kinds of living expenses. The goal of this fundraiser is ambitious, but any donation would be appreciated. We would also be glad to take clothing and food donations as they get settled

Breakdown of Anticipated Costs
  • $6000 for 6 months rent
  • $500 for travel expenses
  • $1500 for clothing and personal items
  • $2000 for groceries
