A little bit about me…
Hi! My name is Anna-Marie and I was diagnosed with Metastatic (Stage 4) Breast Cancer in 2020. I was 38, 2 months shy of my 39th birthday.
My diagnosis is often referred to as de novo, which means my first cancer diagnosis was a stage 4 diagnosis.
As you may imagine, dealing with a terminal diagnosis can be difficult. In some ways, it can also be a blessing. I know you’re wondering how can that be but I’ll tell you. Life is hard for all of us at different times. There are few things that are certain, but the one thing that is, and that we all have in common, is that we are all going to die. The difference between me and some of you is that I pretty much know what’s gonna kill me.
There is a sort of freedom in the knowing. I don’t know the when, but knowing (save a freak accident) the how takes a bit of pressure off. It gave me immediate perspective. The knowing allows me to really be present. More so than I have ever been. I know just how precious life is. And I don’t take any day I’ve had since my diagnosis for granted.
There are so many things that I am thankful for: faith, family, friends, health insurance, a good company and time are at the top of the list. But therein lies the rub…health insurance isn’t cheap. And neither is living.
There are soooo many things I’d like to do before this disease takes the possibilities away from me. But between the business of living and the business of healthcare, I can’t afford do it all on my own. So here’s where you come in. I’d like to aggressively start crossing things/places off of my bucket list, only I can’t take the time off work and still pay living and medical expenses.
At the end of the day, I’m just a girl, fighting a terminal disease, pleading in front of the internet, asking for a lil assistance. (A little Notting Hill humor/reference)
