Here is my sister’s story....
Hello my name is Bonnie I am 24 years old and I live in McBride BC small village nestled in the Rocky Mountains with my partner Josh and daughter Everlee.
Back in February 2014 I was first diagnosed with Myeopithelial Carcinoma, a rare form or salvia gland cancer. I underwent a 14 hour surgery in VGH and completed 36 treatments of radiation in Prince George.
January 2017 I get a phone call no expecting mother wants to hear, let alone anybody at all. The cancer is back, very similar spot but closer to the brain. So I had a 16 hour operation at VGH when I was 18 weeks pregnant. It was long, scary and now not only do I have just my life to worry about I have this tiny little human growing inside of me that needs me. I said no to radiation this time and decided to go full term natural with my daughter, she was 9 days early and healthy as can be. We are so proud of our Everlee Hope, I believe she has kept me strong and sane through out this crazy journey.
December 20th 2017 not even a year later I get another call saying they see something on the scan results and I need to have some more done. For the third time now the cancer is back, I was so disappointed to learn that this cancer was still living in my body. This time surgery is not an option, the damage it will leave and it’s just to difficult. Radiation and chemo were the only other choices and they come with a BIG cost. If I choose to do this I will lose complete vision in my right eye and small chance it can damage my left eye and possibly even hit the brain stem and leave me with much more chronic pain forever. In between the big operations and radiation I had reconstructive surgery and a couple smaller ones because the reconstructive surgery did not hold up.
These last few years have not been easy and I couldn’t do it without all my friends and family the love and support I have is above and beyond and I believe I was blessed with my daughter at the right time for the right reasons.
Bonnie.
*The costs will help with multiple doctor trips a month/medications and with Bonnie’s partner Josh needing to take time off work to be with Bonnie and Everlee during this time.
Thank you.
