I am hoping you will help my son, Damian, who has been through a lot of medical issues during his 7 years on this earth. I adopted my son, who was abandoned at the hospital and placed into foster care. Damian does not talk or walk and suffers with cerebral palsy, low muscle tone and 4 different types of seizures. Recently,
Damian had a gastric feeding tube (g tube) placed in him in order to eat because he was aspirating and becoming very ill resulting in him suffering from on going respiratory issues accelerating his lung disease. Now, nothing by mouth and Damian has to be fed throughout the day hooked up to a feeding bag with all his medicines given through the g tube as well. It is an overwhelming task at times to look at this little boy and to see what he has been through, as his mother, it is heartbreaking, but his hugs and pumpkin smile keep me going to do what I need to do for Damian to make his life better. Damian is a true SUPERMAN!!!
I am raising funds to help purchase a Stairlift for my home because I have been carrying Damian up 16 stairs, which is the only way up into the living area. I am having difficulty doing this now because he is growing and getting really heavy - I don't know if he'll ever walk up the stairs on his own. The insurance company considers a stairlift a luxury item. The need for a Stairlift is a real necessity to help with Damian's daily living of going up and down the stairs allowing him to go out of the home to attend school or out to enjoy the sunshine and coming up the stairs is the real challenge because Damian is so tired he cannot move his feet to take steps and my back is not wanting to hold up, but I continue to carry him up the stairs.
Plus, I'm hoping to raise additional funds to have his bathroom remodeled with tiled walls and floor area, plumbing, and shower heads to help in bathing him. The funds would go to have a shower area built for his needs and where I can push him directly into the shower - like at the hospital, without bending and lifting him in and out of the bathtub.
As Damian recovers from his G-Tube surgery, I am hoping to raise the funds over the next 2-3 months before he goes back to school and he will need the use of the Stairlift on a daily basis, along with the shower area for bathing.
Your donation of funds to help my son, Damian, would mean so much to the both of us and the equipment would really help to make our lives easier to leave the home at any time. Instead of thinking about the challege of taking my son down and up the stairs and elect to not leave the home, I would be able to think about the joy I see in my son's face when taking that Sunday car ride - his pumpkin smile is what I want to remember.
If you, your friends, family, or work collegues are able to donate to Damian's needs, I would really appreciate it! Having the Stairlift and Shower area will help me to help Damian be more independent and for him to feel somewhat like a playful 7 year old little boy who wants to get out of the house and enjoy life. The stairs will no longer be our enemy but will be a challenge we can over come in order to get where we want to go.
