Romans helmet

Hi! Thank you so much for opening my link

TLDR; My son, Roman Iverson, has a funny shaped head and we need a special helmet to fix it.

A little back story for those who don’t know.. on 06/01/22 I was traveling through Oklahoma City and went into premature labor, 8 hours from home. I was 33 weeks, 6 days. As my husband was rushing to get to us he got the “be prepared for the worst” call. My placenta detached and I was bleeding out while simultaneously drowning my son with the blood. I had an emergency C-section and when I woke up the doctors were telling me to say goodbye to my son because he had to leave and go to another hospital for special care.

Between being 6+ weeks premature, the traumatic birth, and being delivered via cesarean.. Romans head hasn’t developed quite right. It is VERY crooked, he is classified as “severe”. You can see in the picture I posted the right side (his left) sticks out while the left side (his right) does not, almost curving in.

The doctors never caught it. I was looking at him one day and told Owen his head looks funny. We set an appointment and got in with a specialist. We found out it is called “Cranial Vault Asymmetry” and a “perfect” measurement would be 0mm, Roman’s head is 14mm. We also found out that the military insurance, Tricare, does not cover these special helmets. Then learned that we are on QUITE the time crunch! Roman is already 7 months old and by 14 months the deformity will be permanent with the only option being surgery. The optimal age to begin helmet therapy is 4-6 months and we’ve already passed that.

We are very prideful and it is very hard for us to reach out and ask for help. We tried to apply for care credit and were denied. Due to the urgency and time crunch we are in, we felt we had no choice but to reach out to see if any family/friends would be willing to help us, and Roman, get over this hump. We know it’s a lot of money, but in comparison to living the rest of his life this way, an almost guaranteed insecurity, we feel like it is very important and definitely worth it.

If you’ve read this far, thank you! If you decide to donate, a million thank you’s!

This is a hard time for everyone and we truly are grateful for any and all donations.
