Help me Sing with CoV in NYC
Help me travel to New York City with my alt choir Conspiracy of Venus! We began blossoming with the release of our debut album Muse Ecology on February 27 and the trip to New York is the crest to the wave we’re riding!
What's Conspiracy of Venus?
Conspiracy of Venus is a 30-woman vocal ensemble based in San Francisco that explores the creative frontiers of music under the artistic direction of Joyce Todd McBride. We interpret Joyce’s daring and inventive arrangements of beloved songs, ranging from popular classics (Joni Mitchell’s “Big Yellow Taxi” and David Bowie’s “Life On Mars”) to edgy contemporary pieces (Bjork’s “Possibly Maybe”), as well as original compositions by Joyce, with dazzling technical verve and tons of personality. The group’s repertoire also includes works by David Bowie, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, The Pixies, Bill Withers, Rufus Wainwright, Stevie Wonder, and Roger Miller, and draws inspiration from medieval music, jazz, funk, and new music. Conspiracy of Venus takes vocal music into territories not often explored by more traditional choirs or college-style a cappella groups (though we are inspired by them too!). Our first album, Muse Ecology, which was recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley with producer Lolly Lewis, was released on February 27, 2016.
Why do I need your help?
I need fundraising support to be able participate in this next stage of our musical journey. I cannot afford the trip on my own due to financial hardship. On March 23, 2015 I was in a motorcycle accident that that caused significant medical costs and missed work days. We were rear ended by a car at 30 miles per hour while at a stop in the Bay Bridge toll plaza. I’m paying a significant amount out of pocket for massage therapy, which is the most effective treatment. Additionally last year I spent a month in LA taking care of my grandma while my mom was in the hospital, which caused additional missed work time. In 2015 I collected 30% less income due to missed work and I am still not able to work full time consistently.
My Role in the NYC CoV Tour
As the Conspiracy of Venus Promotional Lead it would benefit us greatly for me to arrive in New York City the weekend prior to our gigs (May 12 or 13). Arriving early ensures someone is on the ground to take care of last minute in person business as well as promote the three gigs by engaging the street team in person, building social media buzz with NYC based updates, photos and videos and distributing flyers and posters.
Music Video Stretch Goal!
Inspired by the honeymoon music video below I fully intend to use cell phone footage taken by myself and the entire choir to create a music video for the choir. I will use a song from our album Muse Ecology. This video will most likely be created over the summer as it will be my first music video project. Once completed I will use it for Conspiracy of Venus promotional purposes.

Childhood Dream~!
Lastly I am asking for help making my dream come true. As a little girl I used to stand on my bed in my room with the door shut singing my favorite albums from the stage of my bed into a toy microphone. I would imagine myself seeing all the big cities in the US while in a band on tour! I dreamt of having my own album that other little girls could listen to and be inspired by. With Conspiracy of Venus this dream is coming true. At our February 27th album release party I witnessed little girls in the audience and that sparkle in their eye!
