On February 22, 2022, our little sister Stacy Tinsley found out the lump in her breast was cancer. After a biopsy last week, she was diagnosed with triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma. Triple-negative is an aggressive type of cancer, so the doctors want to act quickly, and she will be having a double mastectomy next Friday, March 18th. They will remove her sentinel lymph nodes during the mastectomy and do some other testing to figure out the stage of her cancer. She will also do additional genetic testing because many patients with triple-negative cancer have the BRCA gene. Once the staging and testing are complete, she will get her treatment plan for chemotherapy and radiation. There is a lot of waiting & uncertainty at this point. Carey & our mom, Susan are taking great care of her and getting her to appointments. She is doing a great job at staying her usual active, crazy, turbo-kicking, dancing self right now to keep healthy and positive for the surgery next week.
You may already know but Stacy is a 45-year old self-employed single mom working as a hair dresser. Of course, she is worried about all of her clients and even teased that she hopes they get their hair cut at Fantastic Sam's when she can't work so they'll all be ready to come back to her right away! Due to the upcoming surgery, appointments and treatments, she will be unable to work her regular schedule. The mastectomy recovery will be 5-6 weeks alone. Unfortunately, she is not eligible for disability and will have no income so she & Lincoln, her six-year-old son, will need our help, whether it's a donation, a visit or a text. All support during this challenging time will be appreciated. She is seriously overwhelmed with the texts and posts of support from everyone and feels the love. But most importantly, keep Stacy, Lincoln and her family in your thoughts and prayers. We will keep this page updated on her additional treatments & recovery as they happen moving forward.
Much Love,
Carey & Jill
