Love for Landon

Donation protected
Meet Landon and his parents Kevin and Megan (my brother and sister-in-law). Landon is their first child. In mid July, doctors noticed that he wasn't developing as he should. By late July, Megan was hospitalized for Landon's safety and ultimately an emergency c-section was required to ensure he had a chance of survival. He was born around 28 weeks but in reality Landon's development was more like a 24 week old baby due to the complications.

In his first 48 hours, Landon faced a very difficult time as did his parents. Two days after being born, Kevin and Megan were told by doctors that they needed to make a decision whether they wanted to continue with life support for Landon. Kevin and Megan said they couldn't make that decision and believed Landon would pull through. Doctors told them there was nothing more medically they could do because Landon's oxygen levels were not improving.

In the early evening of August 5th, family and friends were allowed into the NICU with Kevin and Megan because Landon's oxygen levels were dangerously low. All present were packed shoulder to shoulder in a tiny NICU room where they all prayed for and over Landon. Family, friends, and people who don't know Megan and Kevin were praying for this little boy. Amazingly, with no medical explanation, Landon's oxygen levels began improving and his oxygen levels returned to a normal level. It was at that moment that everyone knew he was a little fighter.

Over the last 2 months he has continued fighting, whether infections in his lungs, being intubated and extubated countless times, concerns over his liver enzyme levels or his latest challenge of an intestinal infection. Landon's recent health concern stems from a bacterial outbreak at his birth hospital. Based on the severity and uncertainty if Landon was infected, his parents moved him to another hospital for his safety. The new hospital is about an hour away, in good traffic, from where they live.

Last week after transport, it was determined that Landon likely had the bacterial infection known as NEC. His intestines showed signs of inflammation and doctors placed Landon back on life support and started a treatment of antibiotics. As of yesterday (10/5) Landon appears to be fighting the infection and was extubated and taken off life support. His liver enzyme levels are again elevated and he has stopped putting on weight.

The next few weeks will again be critical for Landon and extremely stressful and tiring for Megan and Kevin. Megan has been out of work since giving birth and at Landon's side everyday being the best mom possible given his situation. It is uncertain when she will return to work. With everything that has happened to Landon, Megan, and Kevin, I felt moved to try and help them in some way.

They will undoubtedly have numerous medical costs for Landon in the next few months and beyond and now unforeseen travel costs to the new hospital . Money raised will go to help with out of pocket medical and travel costs. If you feel moved to help this family any donation amount is welcomed. If you cannot donate please pass this on and keep this young family and precious little boy in your prayers.
