Care for Nellie

Hi I am Nellie. I have Alzheimer’s.
I was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands quite a few years ago.
When I was a young girl, my family moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I grew up, and where my daughter, Nichole was born in 1969.
One of my first jobs was working with Henry Jordan when he became director of Summerfest in 1970. I worked in public relations. I was there when George Carlen was arrested for his ‘7 Dirty Words’ and when The Doors started a near riot. From then on I was bitten by the promotional bug.
In 1975, I decided that I was finished with cold weather and moved to San Diego where I had relatives, and still do to this day.
Many years went by and I became involved in real estate management and founded the Orange County chapter of BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association).
In 1990, my friend Stephanie took me to a Jimmy Buffett concert, and I became a parrothead! In 1994 I heard about Parrothead Clubs and joined the OCPHC (I missed out on being the founder by about a month). In 1995 I became president if OCPHC and held the position until 2005!
While I was president, the OCPHC won the very first Golden Coconut award! I also became involved with the national organization PHiP and joined the board as Director of Ticket Administration and attended my first MOTM in New Orleans!
I have met SO MANY great friends through both my professional & private associations, but sadly, I can’t remember many of them any longer. I have also helped many people with fundraising and time spent doing charitable work.
I can no longer work or drive so I spend most of my time at home, being cared for by my husband and my best friends Barbara & Betty and my dog Harley. I don’t get out much anymore; I get scared if I am away from the house for very long.
I also have caregivers that help me during the day, and I will have to move to a new home soon. That is why I need your help. The cost of care is very expensive and my Social Security and Medicare does not go very far. I hope you can find it in your heart to help me with my care. God bless you, and THANK YOU!
Love, Nellie Carlen
