As many of you know I lost my beautiful mum about a year ago to pancreatic cancer. I have had quite the year as has my grandma Faye.
We received the unfortunate news in august of 2023 that she has been diagnosed with two types of serious cancer, lung and colon. This diagnoses came almost exactly a year after my mums did and was heartbreaking for the both of us. My grandma also suffers from some pretty advanced dementia making day to day care for herself nearly impossible. I had been taking care of my grandma as her primary caregiver since September of 2022 as well as my mum until she passed. This last year and a half as a caretaker has been the most challenging year of my life and I’ve spent time in the hospital myself as a result of it. However I would not take any of it back. Being able to give back to my mum and my grandma has been a small way I can thank them both for taking care of me. That being said in December of this year I felt like I was drowning with no sign of rescue and after a trip to the hospital after another fall my grandma was transitioned into a long term care facility. This has been an incredible weight off my shoulders and hers however it’s placed new challenges in front of us as paying for this facility is proving difficult.
As well I have taken over the finances surrounding my house and as there is a hefty chunk of money still owed on it I am at risk of losing it. Anyone who has ever been in my house knows how much character, love and life my mum and grandma poured into it. This is my childhood home and contains every memory of my the time I spent with my mum in it and I would hate to see if taken away like this.
Any donations are beyond appreciated as I know this time of year can be a difficult time financially. If you don’t have the funds to donate I completely understand and would he ever so grateful if you shared this message to get our story out there. I know I’ve done one of these before and I can’t explain how grateful I was back then and that if I didn’t feel the need I wouldn’t be doing it again.
Thank you all from Maya, Faye and Tanya ✨️
