Imagine waking up one day with discomfort in the back of your neck, then over the next few days, the pain spreading down your back until it is unbearable.

Imagine putting up with this for nearly 2 weeks, eventually loosing all feeling in your legs, but being sent home from A&E (twice) with painkillers.

Imagine how it feels to be admitted into hospital, paralysed from chest down, hoping with every bone in your body that someone will be able to help….. only to spend the first 2 days/nights in a corridor, then more days on a ward waiting to be assessed.

Desperate for answers, imagine the days turning into weeks, being told that the problem is either spinal or neurological, then eventually after nearly 6 weeks and numerous tests, the results arrive…….

Imagine your worst fear. Imagine being told that you have Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Paraneoplastic Syndrome.

This is what happened to my sister-in-law Fay, and with it, all of our lives changed in an unimaginable way. Her immediate family have been crushed: Craig, her partner. David, her eldest son who is currently at university. And Jamie, her youngest son who is only 13.

With Fay struggling mentally, desperately exhausted from being in hospital, and with the prospect of months of chemo and physio ahead, Craig adapted their living room so that Fay could be discharged, and she finally returned home after 8 weeks in PRH/RSH and her first round of chemo.

Fay will need 6 cycles of chemo (6 months) and intense physio, then hopefully, she will regain some movement in her lower body and be cancer free. Until then she is bed-bound and being cared for 24/7 by Craig. She has got a very long and difficult battle ahead of her, but one of which she will overcome with the help and support of her family and friends. But we need a little more help…… which is why I have created this page.

Fay is obviously unable to work, her sick pay about to come to an end, and Craig has had to stop working so that he can care for her full time. He is a decorator and is in the process of selling his tools amongst other things, to raise money for items needed to make Fay’s journey as comfortable as possible. I am hoping to raise money to take away some pressure placed on them at this extremely difficult time.

Fay is one in a million, not just to me but to all those around her who know and love her. In August we were enjoying our annual holiday in Tenby, unaware that just weeks later Fay would be living her worst nightmare. Her whole world has been turned upside down and it has been utterly heartbreaking. Craig has been her absolute rock, so not only do I want to do this for Fay, but also to take some of the burden off his shoulders while he is working desperately hard to look after her at home.
