Our moms medical emergency

Donation protected
On Easter morning our mom, Tanya, was found unresponsive in her home. She was rushed to the closest hospital and after testing, it was discovered that she suffered from a Pulmonary Embolism and her oxygen was below 60% and is requiring 15 liters of oxygen. When the doctors found multiple massive blood clots in her lungs they immediately gave our mom an extremely high dose of blood thinners to try and break up the blood clots. After this, she was quickly transferred to a second hospital where she was admitted into the MICU with a bigger care team. When she arrived, the hosptial gave her more blood thinners, as her chart notes did not indicate she was already given blood thinners at the first hospital.

This caused an unforseen medical emergency, Compartment Syndrome. This is an extremely painful and a dangerous condition caused by pressure buildup from internal bleeding or swelling of tissues. The pressure decreases blood flow, depriving muscles and nerves of needed nourishment. Due to this our mom is needing constant blood transfusions and is currently on her 11th blood transfusion. Our mom can no longer use her left hand and forearm as it has trippled in size, started turning black and has large blisters with three open wounds (2 inches wide and 3 inches long).

Our moms hosptial stay will be a very long and painful one as the care team decides how to best save her hand, between skin grafts and/or amputations. After 8 days in the hosptial (and no near end in sight) our moms medical bills seem never ending. As a family we are scared. Our mom was the main caregiver for our Nana, Mary Spears, and her grandson, Arrow. We know these are tough times for all and want to thank everyone for even reading this far.

We are also desperately looking for a daycare for Arrow as our mom can no longer care for him. Mercedes has flown in from Oregon to be with our mom and care for Nana and Arrow while Nina maintains a full time position. If anyone has any suggestions or information on Daycares please reach out to us. If you know us personally, no questions are too invasive and we would love to share with our mom that she is in your prayers.

If anyone is in a position to donate to our moms medical bills, utilities, and rehab we (Nina Simone and Mercedes) would be eternally grateful.
