Hi, I’m Hayley, I run a cat rescue and sanctuary from my home in the mountains of Southern Spain. I’ve poured everything into the sanctuary and the cats in need here are my main priority in life. I worked hard and used my savings to buy the land and make the structures that form the sanctuary here, and I dedicate nearly all of my waking time to the varied needs of the cats I rescue. I specialise in the cats that no one wants, the difficult cases, the medical cases that would ordinarily result in euthanasia due to the high cost of surgery/treatment, the senior cats, the sick cats, the disabled cats, and until the recent law change I rescued cats from death row at the kill shelter.
I’ve been rescuing cats for years but my sanctuary is only in its first year, so there’s still lots to do! There are ever-present projects that need attention, in order to make the residents’ lives better, to keep them safe and to make it possible for me to run everything single-handedly 95% of the time.
As I write this, my partner is helping me to build a double door system for the main enclosure from the wood and chicken wire leftover from the Chateau Plateau shelter project! There are pressing projects awaiting me too, such as building ramps, shelves and high climb spaces within the main two enclosures to give the cats more enrichment and exercise.
There’s also regular large payouts I need to make for parasite treatments, vet bills, food & litter supplies and bedding, cleaning, bowls, toys etc etc
Funds are the biggest obstacle in maintaining an animal rescue and I don’t receive any govt funding or grants etc. every single donation and sponsor makes a genuine and positive difference in the lives of each furry soul here. I could never do any of this work by myself and I’m so grateful to you for just being here, reading this, and caring about animals
