I am reaching out today on behalf of my mother Susan Bushman. On Friday August 7th 2026 her Home of 28 years was burnt to the ground by the rank 5 wildfire in Faulder, Summerland B.C.. Sadly she was UN INSURED and has nothing coming to her to rebuild her home or any of her outbuildings, or recoupe her belongings.

Over the past 6 years, she cared for both her ailing parents, Charlie and Johanna Goeckel and her ailing husband Bud Bushman. Sadly all 3 have passed on now. Her home was the place she stored her last physical memories of them.

These things are irreplaceable. Her father Charlie was a gifted wood worker and carver. The furniture and carvings he made can never be replaced. Her mother was an avid machine knitter and crocheter. All the hand crafted items gone and irreplaceable. Her husband Bud was a car collector and had a love for model cars. She lost an unisured Javelin and Cougar and will never be able to recover these.

To say this is a devastating loss seems too little a sentiment. Our family has had tragedy after tragedy. We always come out the other side stronger and with a more hopeful perspective. Even now, my mother is trying to look at the bright side but it is so hard at the moment.

She is unsure what the future looks like at the moment as this is all still very fresh and it's hard to know how to move forward. We are reaching out for help so she can start to think about the future and see what could be possible.

My mother has always bean a strong woman. She raised her son and me her daughter Nicole to be strong, kind and giving. If any of us have touched your life in a positive way, or helped you out in the past, I urge you to help my mom Susan now when she most needs it.

We don’t usually ask for help but we want our mother to be able to do whatever she decides when the time comes. It might be a long while before she can rebuild, but without help she will not be able to move forward.

There are so many people who resided in Faulder who also were uninsured. They couldn’t afford it or it was too hard to get. These are people who greatly require help.
