My name is Fortouma (Fatouma) Sissoko and I am junior studying International Affairs and Economics at Skidmore College. I am from the Bronx, NY. I have recently been accepted to participate in a SIT Study abroad program in Switzerland called International Studies and Multilateral Diplomacy. I'm so excited to visit Switzerland for the first time.
As a part of my major, it is a requirement for me to participate in a study abroad program in a country affiliated with my desired field of study. I decided to study in Switzerland due to the fact that the program would expose me to different organizations like the United Nations (UN) and other organizations whose main focus is to aid and assist developing countries. This will allow me to focus on the development of my country, Mali.
My parents are originally from Mali and migrated to the United States to open a door of opportunities for their children that they did not necessarily receive while growing up. In order to really take advantage of all the opportunities I have been granted, I have to ensure that I don't just help my family but also inspire other women in and outside the US to follow their dreams.
In order to do this however, I will need some financial assistance due to the cost associated with this program. As an independent full-time student, I have a limited time to work for the amount needed for this program. These funds will go towards paying visa fees, tuition fees and the flight fees.
I will be extremely grateful for any contributions added to my cause. Every cents count. This program will initially spearhead a path for me to achieve my goal of helping all the women I can. With your help, I will be able to achieve this goal.
Greatly appreciated,
Fatouma
