Fatimah McKnight is my best friend for over 10 years. We met at Rosa Alexander Hall Dormitory, at Norfolk State University, in Norfolk Virginia. When I first learned about Fatimah’s Arthritis and how severe it was, was when her father withdrew her from the school. She was in so much pain, and I didn’t fully grasp how hard this was for her, until that moment. Over the years, I would drive to Maryland, and spend the weekend with her, and always followed up to make sure she was doing okay. I was over-the-moon excited when she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Communication, from Salisbury University.
 
Fatimah has had Arthritis since the age of nine. One day she woke up, and was trying to get up out of bed, and she couldn’t walk. From that moment, she knew her life was going to change. In the beginning, Arthritis affected Fatimah’s knees, fingers, and toes. Currently, she has no joint in her left shoulder and had total knee replacement surgery on her right knee.
 
As I fast-forward these ten years, Fatimah has flown to Texas to visit me, has been my Matron of Honor in my wedding, and beneath the surface she has suffered with this disease. It saddens me deeply how much pain she is endures daily.
 
Fatimah needs surgery on both of her hips. At this point she cannot walk and needs a wheel chair and walker to get around. Fatimah is only 28 years old.
