Father Russell Hill with ALS

Hello,

I have so much to say, bare with me.

First, I want to thank you for taking the time to read our story.
I am writing on behalf of my father Russell Hill.   Four years ago my dad (Russell Hill) started to have weakness in his limbs.  Exactly, one year ago we found out that he was diagnosed with ALS. Outside of Russell’s current diagnosis he has dealt with problems in his shoulders and he even had heart surgery back in 2015.  He was able to fight the odds of his prior setbacks.

We are now in the stages of ALS where its starting to get difficult.  His right arm is disabled and his left arm and legs are starting to get weaker.   He is beginning to need more help from his wife (Audrey Hill) with daily activities such as eating, using the restroom, getting situated in bed and traveling to doctor appointments.  Russell was once able to drive himself everywhere, as he was a truck driver and knew the road like he knew how to breathe.

In the future, they will need to purchase items to help him remain independent for as long as possible. Medicare does not cover his need for a breathing machine, a van to transport him in a wheelchair, wheelchair accessible home renovations and a robotic arm to help him to eat.   It has been a huge adjustment for my mom to be a caregiver to two individuals.

Simple activities like eating 3 times a day becomes a challenge, though with a robotic arm,  Russell will be able to feed himself and be able to save time for my mother who cares for my grandmother in between time.

Eventually my dad will lose all his muscle functioning in his arms and legs and we want him to have a transition of less hassle.
The robotic arm to feed him is $5000 at the least.  We also need a van to transport him to doctor appointments while he is in his wheelchair.  We may need a bed lift to help my mother move him in and out of bed on her own. ALS will affect his ability breathing.

We want to keep this short and simple, we are asking our community to come together and help my father with his ALS before he become fully disabled.   If you can help with anything, if it’s just a dollar we appreciate the help.

We are a family who do not ask for much and always make sure we do for others.  As the only child of the family, I realize we need help...

My hopes is to have a good majority of these wishes met.  With God all things are possible,  so the Hill and Ross Family pray a cure for ALS.  In the meantime,  preparation is essential.   I want to thank you all in advance and for your consideration .
