Help us get JUSTICE for the killing of Gabriel May…
officer Eliana vela lied to the court and said no crash occurred
11/10/25 - Police are now stating there is no body cam or dashcam footage, despite the fact that their reports specifically state body cams were on an I submitted my request for them within 30 days of his death, which should have forced them to keep all videos
NEWEST UPDATE - We now have evidence that Lakeway Police never contacted the prosecutors office… they closed this case 3 separate times and blamed it all on the DA who had no record of this case at all!
On Monday May 13, 2024 at approximately 12:30 pm, Gabriel May was traveling from
Spicewood to Lakeway and had just turned right onto Flint Rock Rd. in Lakeway Texas. It
was raining and the roads were slick. As he was coming to the end of the guardrail section just before Stephanie Ln, a dumptruck driven by Erik Soria-Ramos failed to follow advisory speed signs as he was going over a hill just before a curve, his willful disregard and excess speeds caused him to lose control, the rear of his vehicle swung to the left due to his inability to round the curve at his dangerous speeds (minimum of 42 in 25) and crossed the
yellow line causing the left rear panel of his truck to narrowly miss one car and to make
contact with the 2022 Ford F-150 driven by Gabriel. The speed caused enough force and forward momentum that the F-150 was crushed into a guardrail and Ramos continued to slide out o f control, ripping the drivers side of the F-150 off.
Marble Falls police officers notified me at my home that Gabriel was killed, however
Lakeway did not provide them with much information outside of the fact that he had lost his life. It was not until I started my own investigation that I would be able to actually determine what happened.
I know that | went into the Lakeway police department to attempt to get some answers, yet l never actually met the investigating Detective, Eliana Vela, instead I spoke with a male officer who assured me they would do everything that they could
to determine what caused this crash... I was in shock at that time and do not remember who I spoke with.
On my first New Year's Eve without a partner, while I was on a video and audio recorded group therapy session, Detective Vela called to notify me that they would be closing the case due to a lack of evidence of wrongdoing on the part of Erik Soria-Ramos, Davis PoolSteel or Denali Pools. I was of course unaware of the way these cases are investigated and
because I was suffering the loss o f my husband and the father of our 5 children, I was very confused and unaware of my rights... I advised Detective Vela that my civil attorney, Sean McConnell had not only additional evidence, but that there was a recorded deposition with the driver and the manager of the company who employed him, she refused to discuss any
of this evidence and told me that I needed to accept this outcome. I immediately left a
message on the general line for someone to reach out to me because I did not feel that this was justice for my husband.
On January 6*, 2025 I received a call from Lt. Jason Brown who told me that the D.A refused to prosecute this case but that he was reopening the case because he could not believe that Vela had ignored evidence, he told me that he wanted to ensure that they were as thorough as possible, but the decision was ultimately up t o the Travis County District
Attorney's office. He also stated that manslaughter was the only charge that would make sense other than the ticket the driver got for "Failure to control speed" and that while they had a duty to investigate all aspects o f the case, they would be having another conversation with the DA once they obtained more evidence.
Over the next few months, I reached out to anyone that I could in order to try to get more information, I got EMS, Fire and witness statements and reports, I was able to get photos from people who were on the scene before any emergency services arrived and was able to get a better understanding of the events that took place, which the Lakeway PD refused to
share with me, either through official records or by returning my phone calls. I was treatedlike a pest and you could hear the annoyance and frustration in their voices when I would call for updates that were always unavailable.
On March 5th, 2025 I received another call from Lt. Jason Brown who told me that this case was still being looked into, but this time he stated that Travis County Sheriff's officers had not properly conducted the field tests necessary to determine a speed or other investigatory steps that were the responsibility of the Sheriffs department and therefore, prosecutors told Lakeway PD that they would refuse to prosecute the case, he also added that Travis County prosecutors told them that it likely wouldn't matter either way because
even if they could prove that the truck was doing 10-15 miles over the speed limit with a CDL it would not rise to the burden of proof to equate to manslaughter or even reckless driving, he stated that they were trying to be thorough but that they could not make Travis County do their jobs, he also stated that they do not look at driver's cellphones when they kill someone behind the wheel and that even i f there was evidence that he was also on his
phone, prosecutors have advised it would not necessarily change the outcome... he goes on to state that this is not his case, that he has been reviewing it, yet he could not tell me at all what Detective Vela had done, or what he had done. He stated that the driver did not have increased heartrate, issues with speech or pupillary response, which I found odd seeing as he had just killed a man by splitting a truck open, but that they did not feel he needed to be tested for drugs or alcohol.
O n April 3, 2025 this case was closed again with no other explanation than Travis County Sheriffs did not do their jobs and therefore Travis County DA was refusing t o prosecute.
I immediately called the Travis County Sheriffs office in order to determine why they had not collected this data. I was told that I would receive a call back from someone who handled that department.
The following day, April 4*, 2025, I received a call from Captain Samanski at the Sheriffs
department who stated that not only were they not the primary investigating agency, but that Lt. Brown was dishonest when he said that they did not have the data needed... he then advised me that I was the first person to have ever called them in order to get this information, that they had in fact collected evidence the day of the crash and the following day once the roads were dry, they returned for more data points, he stated that not one person from Lakeway Police had contacted them to obtain this data and that they had not
even been requested on scene that day and repeated that this was the first time they had been called since the crash nearly a year prior to this. He was the one who advised me that the case was being opened for a 3rd time so that Lakeway could investigate after receiving
this information.
On April 21, 2025 I received a call from Assistant Police Chief Chris Bonnet. He advised me that this case was reviewed
every Monday, but could not tell me anything about the case... I also noticed that every time an officer would call, they would never have the report in front of them and could not really give me any details... I told him that this call was being recorded and that I wanted to
understand why this case was closed twice and not one call was made t o Travis County Sheriffs Officers, he advised that he had just obtained this information and that the
minimum speed was 42, they could not determine the speed to 100% accuracy because the F-150 was smashed into the guardrail which stopped forward momentum, he acknowledged that there had been a lot o f missteps along the way but they assumed someone else would do the work for them because they didn't know how. He stated that they would have another conversation with the charging authority to see what could be done, that he and the chief would review everything and ensure it was presented again to
the district attorney, they wanted to ensure every thread was followed and they obtained all evidence available so they could present the D A with a full case. He stated that they assumed Travis County Sheriffs officers would do what the law requires and do a thorough investigation, though I pointed out that even if Travis County had done more, they would not
know because they never made a phone call to begin with.
I would later come to find out that a medical doctor advised EMS to discontinue life saving efforts because his chance of survival was 0% and all he could feel was pain but the police department, even tough a constable was present, refused to allow this to take place, they forced EMS to take him, which means they were required to continue life saving efforts knowing that all this would do would prolong any pain his brainstem registered during this
time. Which not only provided his family with an inaccurate time of death but they chose to allow him to suffer rather than doing their jobs. I would also come to find that toxicology tests were performed on the victim, but not his killer.
Attached you will find the following 20 documents proving the above statements of fact.
