I wanted to try to start this fund raiser to help my sister and nephew after an unforeseen medical emergency which happened to Daniel.
He is a devoted Father to my 6 year old nephew and partner to my sister for 18 years. He is shy, tenacious, sincere, dependable, and fun-loving. He likes to cook, read, and a movie buff.
So what happened?...
- 4/21 Daniel had a dramatic medical emergency at home. Was whisked away to hospital by ambulance.
- After a day of testing and stabilizing they reached a diagnosis. A very rare thing- Extensive blood clot in an artery of his neck. Caused a stroke.
- 4 days later had a second one, as another piece of the clot broke off.
- Brain started swelling. Critical and extremely life threatening.
- with no choice he had to undergo two risky back to back surgeries to save him.
- the fighter he is... he survived.
- doctors are saying words like "miracle" and "fantastic"
- fast forward to now- he is now awake. Breathing on his own. Aware. Speaking.
- doctors predict he will remain in critical condition in ICU for some time.
- another extremely difficult thing too, no visitors policy because of COVID-19...
- there is a long road to recovery, but at least there is a road now.
- doctors and nurses report he is a fighter and working really hard to get him home to his loved ones.
Why I wanted to start a fundraiser is to help with any future unforeseen medical bills and expenses for Daniel and his family.
Thank you to anyone who is able to help and share. We love you all!
Update and message from my sister 5/1/2020:
I want to say thank you. Words cannot express how grateful I am. Thank you to each and everyone of you. The outpouring of love and support for Daniel, fills my heart with so much joy. I know if he could see this rally behind him he would be so touched, and then he would humbly and graciously, thank all of you too. Your love and support has truly helped our family see past our suffering, and is helping us to stay strong, is helping us hold on to hope. During a time like this we realize how much our family, friends, and community really mean to us. We pray and hope for the day when Daniel can be back home to us, and then he can personally thank you all too.
He is such a fighter. He is beating the odds as he continually astounds all his doctors. The reports flow in about how motivated he is, and how hard he is trying to get back to us. Classic Daniel- he is an absolute family man, always thinking about us first. The separation during this difficult time is undeniably excruciating. I am not allowed at his bedside because of the strict no visitors policy during the pandemic lock down. (Yes, for those who know me intimately, I've already tried, and there are multiple guards at every entrance.) Overall at this point, 5/1/2020, he is looking good and they have hope. He remains in ICU in critical condition but his vitals have stabilized, he is breathing on his own, and is even speaking coherently. He was able to talk to me on the phone!!!!!! It was such a relief to hear his voice. There is an underlying problem still though, which is being closely monitored. The current plan is to try to see if it clears up on its own by Monday, if not he will need another surgery, which is already tentatively scheduled for Tuesday. I am told there is a 50/50 chance that he will need it at this point. So we are taking each moment at time, each day at a time, hoping and praying for him to heal and for his pain to subside.
I hope that this update finds you and yours healthy and happy.
On Daniel's behalf and mine, thank you all again.
