The City of Fate Department of Public Safety is a triple certified agency. This means all Public Safety Officers (PSO) are required to be certified as Firefighters, Police Officers and at least to the Emergency Medical Technician level for EMS services. This means that no matter what citizens call 911 for these PSOs are able to respond and assist.

With the growing demand for service and relative size of the department the budget becomes stretched thin when it comes to additional items needed for the safety and security of the citizens and officers. The department operates out of a single structure that houses all fire apparatus and equipment, and all vehicles and equipment needed to perform EMS and police functions. This lengthy list of vehicles and equipment require expensive maintenance, as well as sometimes repair or replacement.

This pandemic has hit everyone hard. This is why it is especially difficult to not only need funds but ask for them. For that reason we have turned to large businesses in our area and the public for support.

The Fate Department of Public Safety is asking community business leaders for their help in procuring a new Police Canine for our department.

Our current Police K9, Czar, has served with the agency for 7 years. At the age of 9 and after a long career it is time for him to retire. This leaves the department and the community for a large void to fill. Czar has been instrumental in, not only law enforcement related tasks but in fostering a great relationship with the City of Fate community. Czar and his handler frequently engaged with the public to educate citizens on interactions with police dogs, police dog capabilities and the fundamentals of police work in todays society.  You could often catch Czar and his handler around the city talking with citizens and building a relationship of trust and loyalty. This is an invaluable tool in todays society that we can not afford to lose.

Czar is also responsible for locating a large amount of illegal narcotics and locating items left behind by suspects attempting to leave illegal substances in our community. Although Rockwall County is small, Czar is one of only a handful of operational K9 teams in the area. This means Czar and his handler assist our neighboring communities and county when asked. This is paramount to an officer’s safety when out at a call for service.

There is a sense of comfort when Czar is around that is felt by the citizens as well as by officers. Our hope is to continue this feeling with a new K9.

We are trying to reach our target goal of $10,000. This covers the dog, initial training to certification standards, and training of the handler and K9 as a team. This package also allows for guarantees from the company in regards to workability and medical concerns of the K9 for a few years following our purchase. This ensure money will not be wasted and the K9 will receive the best possible care from the moment of selection.

The Fate Department of Public Safety, Officers and Leadership thank you for your continued support of our agency and work. If you have any questions regarding this inquiry or about the procurement process, please do not hesitate to reach out.
