Hello, My name is Ernest Fennell... a.k.a Coach Fennell. I am the Head Coach of the FAST TRACK Track & Field Club.
Yes, FAST TRACK is going BACK to BACK to the USA National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships! This time we have a record-setting 13 athletes who have qualified to compete at this level!
The 2023 USA National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships will be held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, in Eugene, Oregon Mon, Jul 24 - Sun, Jul 30. Many of today's Olympic stars began their track & field careers competing in the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships, making this meet one of the most visible youth athletic development programs in the world.
HOWEVER, WE ARE GOING TO NEED YOUR HELP TO GET US THERE AGAIN! We need assistance with airfare, room & board, and ground transportation.
Before you support us, please read all of the success that these awesomeness athletes have had in the last 3 months leading up to today!
We have our veteran 15-16 year old Amari Monteiro who has been competing for FAST TRACK since he was in the 9-10 year old group. Amari is this year's 2023 USATF New England Junior Olympic Champion in the 400-meter dash. He qualified for nationals at the Region 1 Championships in New York on Saturday, July 8th. He's looking forward to besting his time of 51.87 at the National Championship!
Newcomer and multi-talented 7-8-year-old group Andrew Kocon a.k.a. "AJ" also runs the 400m Dash. AJ placed 5th at the New England Championships with a time of 1:29.19. At the Region 1 Championship in New York, AJ had a dramatic and nearly 5 seconds personal best of five seconds (1:24.22) which place him 4th and earning his first medal!
Next, we have our bravest 13-14-year-old distance runner, Eleanor Lial who runs the 3000 meters and Anchors our 4x400 meter relay team. Eleanor placed 6th at the New England Championships and turned it up a notch at the Region 1 Championship by improving her time by 1 second and placing her 4th and earning her a medal. She turned around the next day and helped her 4x400m teammates close out another 4th place medal and earn their 4th place medals!
In the 4x100m relays, at the New England Championship, we had newcomers Jaden Gonzalez leading off, Zekiel Palacios-Palmucci, Rocco Conti, and veteran Azirel Deandrade anchoring the team to a Gold First Place Finish as USATF New England Junior Olympic Champions! In the absence of Azirel Deandrade, newcomer Gabriel Chantre stepped in as an alternate and showed that he's a contender as well and lead the team to another GOLD FIRST PLACE FINISH as Region 1 Junior Olympic Champions.
In the relays, we had 6 awesomeness 13-14 girls who showed grit & grind in both the 4x100m & 4x400m relays! At the New England Championship, newcomers, Laejah Preston lead off to Jordin Peckham, Vivyana Gomes, to Anchor Leg Caitlin Massey earning them 58.8 4th place. In the 4x400m the same girls except for Laejah and the addition of Eleanor Lial, capped off the night with a well deserved Silver medal.
At the Region 1 Championships all 5 girls except Vivyana and the addition of Newcomer Serenity Lewis, the girls bested their time of 58.8 in the 4x100m relay to 56.44 and earning them a Silver Medal!
Finally, the girls were tested once more after already running their events earlier only to run the grueling 4x400 meter relay. Caitlin Massey lead off as usual and connected with Jordin Peckham. The test came when short sprinter Laejah Preston filled in Vyviana. Laejah Preston ran an impressive 400 meters and handed the baton off to our strong 3000-meter runner Eleanor Lial who can also turn up in the 400 meters! These girls earned an impressive 4th place medal and advanced to the National Championship that will be held at the most popular place on earth in college and professional track and field…. The Home of Many Olympians and World Track & Field Championships…..Hayward Field at The University of Oregon, home of the Ducks, Eugene, Oregon.
