The head of the World Food Programme has described Afghanistan as "the world's worst humanitarian crisis". The Winter Relief fundraiser is set out to provide vital food packages to vulnerable populations in Faryab. It has been almost 5 months since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan. Facing economic collapse, drought and winter approaching, people of Afghanistan are threatened with food insecurity. As each day passes this crisis escalates further, threatening people all over the country.

The World Food Programme says that it needs to reach 23 million people who are in imminent danger of starvation. More than half of the population face acute food insecurity, with dropping temperatures throughout the country. Furthermore, WFP calls for $2.6 billion to offer life-saving assistance and strive toward long-term resilience. By the end of the year, an estimated 3.2 million children under the age of five are likely to be malnourished. Without urgent assistance, at least one million of these children are at risk of dying from severe acute malnutrition. As well as, the prices of goods and foodstuffs have skyrocketed due to the ongoing economic crisis, for instance, the price of a 50 kg flour has risen from $13 to $30 within the last few months.

Northern Afghanistan is one of the most conflict-ridden and the most neglected regions in Afghanistan. It receives meagre rations of aid and the plight of populations in northern provinces, particularly that of rural regions, do not receive enough coverage by the media. With the recent, drought, food insecurity, as well as, forced displacement taking place across northern provinces it is deemed urgent to send help to people in Faryab and Jawzjan. If the goal set is achieved within a month, the money will go towards the needs of the most destitute populations and internally displaced persons in Faryab in order to alleviate their conditions throughout winter and to provide over 120 families with food packages. Each package will include flour, cooking oil and rice and is estimated to cost $80. In case we exceed the targeted amount the fund will go towards the needs of the concerned populations in Jawzjan.

You can help mitigate the burden of this catastrophe on our people by donating to this life-saving cause and sharing it with your network. Thank you for your support!
