If you have been here awhile, you probably are a part of the #GunnerStrong family. If you are new here, I would be delighted to share about one of my favorite little buddies.
Gunner, whose name means warrior or battler, was born doing just that. He has faced many medical battles in his three short years of life and we have watched miracle after miracle unfold before our eyes of his healing.
His parents, his doctors, and his army of family and friends who have come along side the Farr family have been instrumental in every step of the way in these healing journeys.
It is time to go to battle again for our sweet Gunner. On Saturday night, January 14, Gunner went to bed his normal, sweet, silly self. Upon waking that morning, Emily and Dave quickly realized that through the night he had become sick and was deteriorating quickly, as he could not fully wake up. He was taken to the children’s hospital where they began running a gamut of tests trying to figure out what was going on inside his tiny body.
Over the next few days he regressed to being unresponsive. The doctors would try different treatment options and he would progress and then regress, and at times Emily and Dave were faced with some very scary “what-ifs.”
Currently, Gunner’s condition is stable. He is unable to sit or stand unassisted. His speech is still delayed and he has periods of confusion and a lot of fatigue. Little by little he is making progress, and coming back to us. Unfortunately, there are still no concrete answers as to what is going on with him.
We are fully hopeful that Gunner is going to make a full recovery, and he will be back to the sweet, energetic boy we all know and love. However, there is still a LOT that hangs in the balance before he is even moved out of the PICU and furthermore out of the hospital.
We do not have any idea what the future holds for treatment and any therapies he may need. This is where our #Gunnerstrong army comes in.
First and foremost, we need prayer. We have seen the evidence of the power of prayer in Gunner’s life already as he truly is a miracle. Second of all, if you feel led to donate to their family, we would all be so grateful. This will not only be a huge financial burden medically, but for the foreseeable future, someone has to be with Gunner 24/7. His parents will need to have the freedom to make sacrifices in order to be sure that he has the best care. If you would like to donate to this site to help alleviate some this financial stress the Farr family would be so grateful.
We will have other ways to help in the coming days once Gunner is home and they are settled in.
