Please read her story- My parents, against the odds of our financial situation, ensured that I got a good education by enrolling me in the best school in Khorog. I have seen my parents financially struggle since our move from a remote village to Khorog, I prayed to God for a chance to lighten their burden. My two brothers and I know that it is our responsibility to help our family and improve our standard of living. At the age of 12, I got the chance to undertake the exam for the academy. God heard my prayers, I received a letter that I would be admitted to the academy. My brother, who is the least emotional person I know cried, he said that I was going to save our family. Being the dreamer that I am, I did not want to see my abilities simply end at saving our family, I always understood how hard it was for everyone at home and wanted to improve the lives of people in my community.
The academy was a game changer. I came in as naive 12 year old who, for the first time had to live away. The academy taught me about pluralism and how to coexist with people from many different backgrounds. There were times I thought of going back home to look after my parents. They had taken several loans to finance the education of my siblings. However, I had to remind myself that the Imam has a plan for me. The academy instilled in me the principles that would allow me to be useful to my community. I have become socially aware and understand the economic background of the community I come from in Tajikistan. The academy has equipped me with knowledge and problem-solving abilities, with which I hope to contribute to our community.
I was admitted to the University of Toronto, the University of Ottawa and the University of Waterloo. I selected the University of Waterloo for their program in International Development. To make my aspiration real, I hope you will support me!
