Farmer's home lost to California wildfire
Our friend Judy Low is a small-scale organic farmer who just lost her home and all her possessions to the CZU August Complex Fire in Santa Cruz. She is a co-owner of Molino Creek Farm and has been selling the farm’s popular organic produce and vibrant sunflowers at multiple farmers markets since 1984. For Judy, Molino Creek is more than a farm; it’s a way of life. She says that organic farming at Molino Creek over the years has allowed the owners to create a livelihood and a source of nourishing foods for their families and the community.
It is hard making a living at small-scale organic farming, and I know Judy will work hard to rebuild. Judy is a modest person who has always lived lightly on the Earth, and it is profoundly unfair that a wildfire caused by lightning destroyed her home and everything in it. She evacuated to our home with just her truck and a few clothes, and then she got a phone call from her farm co-owner that her home had burned down. So she needs help rebuilding her life after the fire passes and they let her back onto her farm. She has home insurance, but it has a high deductible and won't cover everything she has lost.
We have been friends with Judy for over 30 years and want to help her get back on her feet so she can get back to what she loves: organic farming. We promise to transfer all the money raised directly to her to cover the cost of things that her insurance does not cover.
