Fargo Cancer treatment fund

Hi guys!
I have known the Thompson family for years. They are wonderful, kind people who always pride themselves on putting the horse first. Carleigh started riding with me a few years ago and is a very naturally kind, soft rider. I also have been lucky to put time on her "new to her" wonderful gelding over the years. The horse himself is a gentleman...soft, responsive and the exact kind of unicorn we all want our kids to grow up on.
After making the mature but difficult decision to spend her entire young life savings, Fargo and Carleigh became a team. As we started to work together it soon became apparent something was making Fargo act extremely out of character, bucking etc- baffling me- yet carleigh still pressed on with more patience and wisdom most adults even possess.

And then, disaster strikes. After already spending a fortune, especially to a young kid, we find out Fargo has been diagnosed with cancer and will require expensive and extensive treatments at MSU. The cancer IS curable but comes at a hefty price.

On behalf of good horse owners, good parenting, great young kids that are our future and more, please consider donating to the cause of healing Fargos cancer. I know we as a horse community are strong and can chip in, even a little bit to see the happy ending of Fargo and Carleigh" riding into the sunset"

I have copied and pasted some of the time line/ words from Carleighs parents.

In June/July Carleigh noticed what looked like a couple blisters in her best friends groin area while cleaning his feet. A call and pictures were sent into the vet. Vet said give Benadryl twice a day and apply steroid cream for 4 days. If it doesn’t improve call back and we will have to do a biopsy.
The growths didn’t go away but, kept getting bigger. The vet did a biopsy and thought it wasn’t a big deal. Thought bug bites aggravated the tissue. Thought it was just a fibroid but, wanted to send it out to pathology to see what it is for sure. Pathology came back a few weeks ago as spindle cell sarcoma. A very aggressive skin cancer. The location is the worst possible in that area. It hurts and doesn’t want to be touched so that puts people in danger back by the kick zone. We decided to have it surgically removed. It was painful and bothered him. While doing that it had spread more and the 3 vets doing the procedure didn’t think they were able to get it all. But they were going to try. They sent the full tumor in to have margins tested hoping for good news. At this point they have come back as he needs to be treated at MSU with electro chemotherapy. Which is a very costly procedure and will have to be done several times at about $1,500 a pop. $2,000 with needed bloodwork. He goes into MSU on October 30th at 9:30 in the morning and will stay the night. We will at that time determine how many more treatments/trips will be needed. At this point it has already spread to about a 6 inch x 6 inch area in his groin. The vet thinks without seeing him based on my vets records will be at least 2-3 times if not more.

Carleigh’s story. She has known this horse for about 3 years now. She has saved up for two years breaking and training ponies to buy him. He is her dream horse and has all the qualities she has been looking for. She had lost her previous horse at age 29 and had been an uphill battle to find the right horse she clicked with. She didn’t enjoy riding after that. She was hoping he would still be available while she continued to work for the necessary funds. Her awesome trainer was able to make this relationship happen. This May, her patience and hard work paid off. She was finally able to buy her new best friend and fall in love with riding again. She has always held him for the farrier, groomed him, fed him, watered, and bonded with him. She has taught him tricks and done things with him that were new to both. They have grown exponentially over the few short months of owning him. This team in this short time has gotten some pretty high accomplishments in barrel races, e team, and supporting local 4H shows. The have placed in almost all shows and have even gotten a grand champion ribbon! They placed first in all their speed events in the last e-team show, high points in ranch riding, bareback, and trail. Some honorable mentions in English. They have learned so much from each other and truly have that special bond all horses and a little girl should have. Carleigh has even maintained a 4.0 GPA through all of this and is a devoted top distance runner for Ionia for cross county and track since middle school. She volunteers through student council for community service, and is always first to help others when in need. Although we are doing everything we possible can, Carleigh and Fargo can use any help and assistance they can get.

- so there you have it folks-
I believe in giving a hand up to others when needed- let's show Fargo and Carleigh of the GOODNESS in this world- and not let cancer win!
