Thank you for visiting this Gofundme page. My family and I are currently going through an incredibly challenging time right now dealing with multiple unforeseen medical conditions. It has been a physical, emotional, and mental toll on everyone involved.
The Story:
My Baba (Step-Dad – Safi) has been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/ Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS). He started having unusual symptoms of the disease back in April 2020. Due to the start of the quarantine/lockdown, it was very challenging to get the correct diagnosis of his ALS. We went through a tedious trial and error process for this diagnosis from stroke, MG, and MS, but his symptoms continued to increase. ALS is fatal and he is now far in his prognosis, which continues to rapidly increase. The only thing we can provide for him now is care and comfort.
As our family was managing my Baba’s diagnosis, we experienced another medical emergency. My Ammu (Mom – Farah) suffered a life-threatening stroke in September 2020. In 2004, she was diagnosed with a rare brain disease called “Moyamoya” that increases the risk of stroke and other complications. She had to undergo two brain surgeries on both sides of her brain. Since her brain surgeries, my Ammu managed her health well and lived an active life throughout the years, so the recent stroke was a sudden shock (I was literally speaking with her just hours before the incident). She was in Neuro Trauma ICU for 1-month battling numerous infections and was undergoing non-stop life saving surgeries. She finally emerged out of a minimum consciousness state around late November 2020. My Ammu is currently in rehab and is participating in physical and psychological therapy. Thankfully she is making progress (albeit slow), however I must make sure I can provide her the necessary support, care, and treatment for her continual recovery back to being my Ammu.
What this money will be used for:
Any medical bills/expenses, medication, equipment, care/treatment, insurance, daily bills/payments, debts, groceries, everyday necessities, etc.
What this money will NOT be used for:
Any personal/selfish gains or use. Thankfully, I am blessed with having a steady income that I must continue to uphold for not only myself but for my family.
I am putting my life on pause and sacrificing a lot to provide the support needed for my family. Honestly, I have no idea what I am doing or what I need to do. The stress and sadness of everything is just simply terrible. I am trying my best to take away any burden from my sister so she can focus on being a regular teenager and on school. It really hurts knowing how much good times I am missing with my mom and how much she is missing the family. At the same time, it is also depressing seeing my Baba decline daily. However, saying all that, I just know/feel that our story will continue and that the good times will be back.
