Hannibal Lecter Academic Talk
I am trying to raise funds to attend an academic conference at the University of Melbourne in Australia this November. The conference is on all things Dr. Hannibal 'The Cannibal' Lecter—one of my all time favorite subjects of study!
Here's a little bit about it and about me—
I am an independent researcher, writer, artist, and lecturer. Independent means I do all of the above entirely by myself, outside of university or institutional support. I love doing it this way because it lets me devote myself to what I want, when I want—my passions; albeit, under my own steam.
One of the things I have become devoted to over the course of my life is genre fiction, particularly horror and sci-fi. I don't just love to watch it—I love to explore and study it like the hopeless nerd I am.
One of my favorite points of study in genre fiction is also the world's most popular cinematic villain. That villain has been wonderfully realized as a nearly supernatural force that is presented in Bryan Fuller's Hannibal.
For those of who who don't already know, NBC's Hannibal is the greatest achievement since Demme's Silence of the Lamns. There's so much to read in it. It's sprays with visions and ideas. The damn thing is just the top of genre horror, dark humor, and honestly—art. It's pulp perfection. It's the best. I love Hannibal. And that makes me a Fannibal.
In fact, I'm such a Fannibal for everything Hannibal that I've found myself even writing about it.
Indeed—here's some embarrassing fanart I made!
I have such the hots for Hannibal that I found out (through one of my Fannibal fan groups) that The University of Melbourne was accepting abstracts for papers to present on all things Dr. Hannibal Lecter for their Feasting on Hannibal event happening at the end of this November.
Being the high order Fannibal of the Lecterverse that I am, I couldn't help myself.
So I sent them one...

*SPOILERS OVER*
Without a formal degree, I figured my effort would amount to a fun writing exercise; but that ultimately they'd probably not pick my abstract.
Well...
To my utter surprise...
And delight...
They accepted it!
So...
As anyone who watches Hannibal knows...
Anyone will do anything for Hanni.
Anything.
So now I have to get there.
After all, when is there going to be another major academic symposium on Hannibal Lecter?
When will I get another chance to feel deeply pround and say, "Hey—I might not have a college degree, but I was invited to talk about Hannibal the Cannibal at a major university."
Being able to live that life would be the joy of joys.
In other words, in terms of what I truly, deeply want my little world to be...
...it's this!
Help an independent academic out!
Make my scholarly, cannibalistic, and nerd lore dreams come true!
THANK YOU ALL!
ALL MY LOVE!
EMBRACE THE MADNESS!
KEEP HANNIGRAM ALIVE!
