Fan Jiang’s Memorial
Fan Jiang, our dear friend had passed away on June 2nd, 2020. Just a few days after her 34th birthday due to complications from child birth. Before she passed, she was able to give birth her dear son, baby Max. Which we later learned was the ultimate sacrifice from her as a mother, to create life. He was born prematurely. Fortunately, he is recovering and getting stronger.
My wife and I are close friends of Fan and Wei. We have known Wei for a long time and eventually got to meet Fan on August of 2015 on a triple date, when she came into his life. We were so excited to meet her as Wei had been swooning over her since he had found her. From the moment we met her, we understood why. We both joked that Wei had scored the lottery of a lifetime with Fan.
She was beautiful, outgoing, sweet, charismatic, and had the most infectious smiles. Anyone who knew her would agree, she was also a gentle soul; just so full of life. Overall, a beautiful human being inside and out. Just like all the creations she had ever made and understandably so, as professionally she was a lead marketing designer for The Knot, a place she was so proud to work for.
When we had first found out that they were expecting their first child, we were over the moon for them. We shared the joys of their journey to becoming first time parents. Not knowing, never crossing our minds, that her time with us was coming to an end soon.
The birth of baby Max was supposed to be one of the most amazing moments for Fan and Wei. We still can’t believe she’s no longer with us. And it shatters our hearts to know that Fan was unable to experience the joys of raising baby Max with Wei. It made us questioned how maternal mortality could still be possible in this day and age, with all the medical advances.
We had been drowning in denials and anger over the loss of Fan. However, we know in the midst of grief, we must pick up the pieces, no matter how broken, to help Wei raise baby Max, without Fan. In addition to learning to live without Fan, Wei will now have to learn to be a father and raise a newborn alone. This GoFundMe account will help with Fan’s funeral expenses and more importantly help with the long term care and education expenses for our precious baby Max.
Baby Max, if there was one thing you ever need to know, is that your mommy loves you to the moon and back!
