Family's Plea: Free Jorge Vargas

Hi, my name is Karina Vargas, and I am urgently raising funds for my beloved father, Jorge Marcelo Vargas, who is currently being wrongfully detained in Venezuela. Our family is devastated, and we are doing everything we can to bring him home safely and ensure justice is served.

My father is an innocent man. He has always stood for fairness, love, and community, and now he is suffering in a system that has unjustly imprisoned him. We are seeking help to cover essential expenses, including his mortgage, utilities, repairs to his home, and critical advocacy efforts to fight for his release.

My father is a US citizen who has been wrongfully detained in Venezuela since mid-September 2024. While the US government’s Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs is leading negotiations to return him to the United States, his family would be grateful for additional help to ensure they are managing all that my father will need to reintegrate into his life and family upon his prayed-for return.

Since my father was wrongfully detained in September, I've had to maintain his home, work with the bank to ensure his house was not foreclosed on, and pay his taxes. I also have to manage engagement with US government officials and Members of Congress while caring for my own family. The financial and emotional strain of my father's detention has been draining and challenging for the family.

My siblings and his three grandchildren are very concerned about him and working for his safe return home. His extended family includes a step-grandson who is proudly serving in the US Navy. My father is a gentle soul and loving person who would give you his last dollar. His granddaughter shares that “he is a man of deep faith, unwavering love, and genuine kindness. His Christian faith is the foundation of his life. He lives by the teachings of love, compassion, and selflessness, always extending a helping hand to those in need. No matter what challenges he faces, he finds strength in God and trusts in His plan.”

Our family’s faith now carries us as we pray for his safe return and for justice to prevail. We are seeking assistance and support as we advocate for my father's return home.

This situation has taken a heavy toll on our family in every way. Any donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to stability at home and one step closer to bringing my father back.
