On the 12th of June, my kids' grandmother's house was destroyed by a fire that was caused by electrical problems within the home. We contacted the homeowner of the property maybe twice about popping in the breaker box and appliances shutting off mid-use. The night of the 12th, their grandmother was woken up due to being extremely hot. When she got up to see what was wrong with the ceiling fan, she smelled burning within her vents. She proceeded to get up to dress herself, only to see her entire kitchen area not visible due to the smoke. Her initial thought was she fell asleep with the oven on, but that wasn't the case. She continued to look for the reason the house was smoking. She knocked on doors thinking my two daughters (ages 6 and 4) and their puppy (8 weeks) who were supposed to been home but wasn't . She then went upstairs, only to get trapped when the power was shut off on her, having to maneuver her way back down the stairs safely, seeing she's elderly and has a difficult time moving fast on her own. It was by the grace of the Lord she was able to keep her balance, breath, and vision while doing so. She was able to wake her kids up by screaming, and they grabbed as much as they could to salvage (car keys, phone, dogs, photos). Everything else we owned was destroyed by the fire and smoke. The firefighters did confirm the fire started within the AC unit of the home and made its way through the vents first, which could have caused them all to suffocate in their sleep. BUT GOD!!!! He IS a MIGHTY GOD and A ON TIME GOD who NEVER makes a mistake! In Jesus name, Amen! I'm currently asking for help to replace some of the essentials and to secure a living space. Seeing the rental insurance lapsed and were not aware of paying the fee for not having it, rather than having it. She didn't know the difference and sadly the homeowner are insisting we call OUR rental insurance that lapsed when moving into their home of March of this year.
