*UPDATE* Qantas managed to get them seats on a flight from Sydney-Darwin-London. A new route to help people get home and avoid big transit airports. Because of this fundraiser, they were able to go to the airport and book flights to Sydney from Melbourne early this morning to ensure they could get on that flight. They are due to take off at around 5pm to start their very long journey home. And then try and get from London to Edinburgh, but its a whole lot closer than Melbourne to Edinburgh. We are getting there! This fundraiser has allowed them to get home on what is likely to be the last day of travel. Thank you so, so much everybody!
We hate to set this page up but we are truly trapped and don't know what to do.
My family (Mum, Dad, brother and sister) travelled to Melbourne from Scotland to attend my wedding, which has since been cancelled. They tried to bring their flights forward/book new flights to get home safely when travel restrictions began due to the coronavirus. However, there aren't any flights available before planes are grounding (most airlines have already cancelled all flights). We have been to the airport and nobody is able to help us.
My family have spent all of their money to get here, and really have nothing left. My mum is my brother's full time carer and my Dad has sarcoidosis so hasn't been able to earn much money. They are booked into an Airbnb until Monday 30th March but after that they have nowhere to go and no money left to book alternative accommodation. My fiancee and I are helping as much as we can financially, but we have also just lost all of our savings on a wedding that didn't happen.
My brother, Joshua, has cerebral palsy and is completely reliant on his wheelchair, unfortunately my apartment isn't wheelchair accessible so he isn't able to stay with me. At this time, the embassy haven't been able to help us and we are extremely worried as to how they are going to live. We just need to have enough money to find some wheelchair accessible accomodation and food to keep them alive until either the British embassy are able to help, or flights become available again.
This is a very scary time for us, anything that anyone can do to help us would mean the absolute world.
Thank you,
The Rowe Family
