UPDATE: Lee flew to UIHC on a Medical Transport on 4/27. Roxy is scheduled to be on one back to Iowa on 4/29. The cost of these flights is $22K each. We have raised the goal amount to hopefully cover one of these flights for Lee and Roxy, and by doing so offset the expense of these flights and reduce the financial burden at a time when they need to be focused on their recovery. Thank you for your consideration and your help. Lee and Roxy and their family have been deeply moved by the show of support during this unimaginable time in their lives.
UPDATE:
April 20th marked 3 weeks for Lee and Roxy in the ICU. While Lee continues to make steady progress, Roxy struggles. There have been many issues with the brace they have her in. They both still have spine surgeries and many other procedures to go. Because Roxy also suffers from dementia and has issues with memory, the hospital stay has been particularly hard on her. Please continue to send cards, messages, prayers and love for Lee and sweet Roxana.
After speaking to Lee this week, it's clear that the goal now is to get them both to a place in their recovery so they can safely travel back to Iowa. Lee expressed a strong desire for that to happen as soon as it's possible for them. It also became clear that because of their extensive injuries and medical needs, this will likely be a very expensive medical transport. Lee made it clear this is what's best for them. In no way do we expect to be able to raise the entire amount needed, but now our goal is to raise as much as we can to help offset the upcoming expenses involved in bringing Lee and Roxy home.
Lee and Roxy's children and their families have been working so hard and advocating fervently for both of them. Communication issues and issues with consistency in care, continue to arise and although the family is on top of the details, as Geoff said, "There are a lot of moving parts here. Many injuries, many instructions, many things that can fall through the cracks." It will benefit everyone for Lee and Roxy to be back in Iowa.
Let's help get them home. Please contribute if you can. Even small donations add up quickly. Thank you for your attention and consideration.

At the end of March, two of our dear friends were involved in a horrific and life-threatening accident. This was posted on Facebook by their daughter, Elizabeth, on April 4th:

At the end of March, two of our dear friends were involved in a horrific and life-threatening accident. This was posted on Facebook by their daughter, Elizabeth, on April 4th:
"Family and friends, my brother Geoff and I, want to let folks know that on March 30th in the late afternoon our parents, Lee Thorson and Roxana Fudge, were struck by a truck while bicycling on their tandem bike and sustained life-threatening injuries in Tucson, Arizona. They are both in the Trauma ICU and we are with them daily.
Lee and Roxy were in a cross-walk, crossing with the light, and were struck by a Dodge Ram pick-up that was turning right. The accident caused multiple-bilateral rib fractures, multiple vertebrate fractures, broken bones, massive left-hand injuries for both (requiring at least a dozen surgeries to come, each) extensive abrasions, and many contusions. They are not paralyzed and are stable, but are fighting every day. It is going to be a long road ahead."
Like many, Andy and I want to do something to help Lee and Roxana and show our support for this family. This fundraiser is meant to help offset the expense of two medical transport flights for Lee and Roxana, back to Iowa. If you're like us, just wanting in some way to help, please show your love and support for this family as they weather the tremendous challenges ahead.
