Prompted by the disappearance of their mother, estranged sisters Cait and Elle must reunite to find her, if she even wants to be found.

WORKING TITLE: Family Ties

Hello! My name is Izzy Seow, I’m a Fourth-year student at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Family Ties is a character-driven family drama, and will be my fifth short film and my capstone project.

Sisters Cait and Elle are experts on the law – but not in the way you’d expect. 20 years ago, their father, Rob, was killed by a corrupt cop. Ever since, their mother has been obsessed with finding the man responsible for her husband’s murder. Transforming her search into a country-wide establishment, Mara and her daughters run a not-entirely legal business dedicated to helping others in similar situations. Cait and Elle have only known the revenge-filled life their mother has led, involved in the business since a young age. Cait, the eldest, is obligated to follow in their mother’s footsteps. Elle, however, wishes for a life free of their mother’s control and expectations. Two years ago, younger sister Elle escaped their mother's controlling lifestyle, with the reluctant aid of older sister Cait. Now, Cait has to ask for her sister's help, and ask her to risk her freedom for the woman who made both their lives miserable.

Family Ties’s story is inspired by Vancouver-filmed hit TV show Supernatural, with a touch of Robbie Reyes’s Ghost Rider vengeance, while the visuals are inspired by Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049.

Written and to be directed by myself, I am also self-producing this film, which means any help is greatly appreciated.
