Our 7-year-old son Damien has a rare genetic disorder, Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD), and he has a big surgery in December to put his hips back in place and lengthen his hamstring muscles. This is a very long and painful procedure. He will be in the ICU for at least 10 days and in the hospital in general for weeks. His father and I will have to take off work for a month or longer, depending on recovery and discharge.
We just want to be there for our son and not have to stress about how we are going to pay our mortgage, etc. He’s going to be spending Christmas in the hospital. Dad will be traveling back and forth a lot, as Damien has two little sisters at home. It’s an hour-and-a-half drive to the hospital. Anything will help take some weight off our shoulders. Thank you.
* Update Damien has been having complications with the previous procedure in July and just got out of surgery to remove the device this is now the second week we’ve been here in the hospital with him with no pay obviously, December surgery is on hold, we have been using these funds to pay our bills and expenses while here, he is now in the ICU on an ventilator.
