Hello, my name is Shawndee. My niece, Jessica, was in a fire on August 12, 2024. She sustained 50% burns, effecting the lower part of her face, her ears, arms, hands, chest, stomach and neck. They used skin from her back and legs for the grafts. Jessica spent nine weeks on the burn unit. She had to relearn how to walk and talk again, and participate in intensive physical therapy. She has undergone 13 surgeries so far. Her doctor predicts that she will have at least 5 more within the next two years. Jessica is a mother of four children. She is unable to physically care for her children, so luckily she is receiving help from family, but still needs help to financially support them. She is unable to live alone as she needs daily care. She currently has limited use of both arms, right hand, and neck. There is significant damage to her left hand so it is stuck in a retracted state. Eventually she will need a cornea transplant in her left eye as well.
Medical bills are starting to pile up. Her vehicle is in need of some major repairs. We need to make some adjustments to the house as well to accommodate her disabilities. She has been the sole provider for her family. Currently she is unable to work to provide for herself, help with the cost of her care, and the care of her children. She has applied for disability but it takes months to get an approval.
With physical and occupational therapy, and surgery she will be able to regain most mobility. We are taking every day as a blessing. We could use a little help to get her through.
Thank you!
