Family Retinitis Pigmentosa Fund

I met Adrian, the 30 year old father,  in this family as part of the construction crew of my home in Mexico. My daughter had gifted clothes and many items to the guys. I saw Adrian trying on the reading glasses and learned that he had a problem with his eyes with one being worse than the other. I took him to an ophthalmologist I knew  in Merida who dealt him the blow that he had retinitis pigmentosa and would eventually lose his vision. No cure or remedy. He gave him a very large dose of vitamin A on alternate months which would slow down progression, a prescription for glasses, and suggested he go to the public hospital for genetic testing etc. With a lot of effort on their part and mine we went back to O'Horan hospital where he was told the same thing " There is no cure and he will eventually lose his vision" but they did no genetic testing. We took his 9 year old son  to a retinolgist who confirmed that Alexander has the same condition. He has glasses also.  So far I have been able to pay for these expenses. He earns about 10 USD per day and goes home only 2x per month bc transport is about $25. The medical trips are a big effort for all of us He works here in the Tulum area and lives in Tzucacab, Yucatan which is about 4 hours from here and about 3 hours from Merida. Picture a triangle with Merida on top, his home bottom left, and Tulum bottom right. Naturally I have been researching everything about this disease, RP. Cedars-Cedars-Sinai has a researcher doing stem cell treatment for RP and she communicated with me, asking me what type of RP. We don't know . This weekend Adrian, his wife and I are trekking to Merida to Retimediq for more studies and clarification of his type of RP who can not play outside at might bc of the night blindness this malady brings. Were it possible he could be seen in the US that would require a lot of expense and effort. And remember there is Alexander. I am dedicated to exhausting all avenues to help this family. They live in a  very humble place in the interior of the Yucatan where the wife gathers wood to cook as well as take care of the 3 boys and their schooling. Adrian is dedicated to provide education for the boys. 2/19/2018 Retimediq :It is recommended that he have cataract surgery as these are impeding his vision as well. I ask my friends and family to assist me in this endeavor.
