Family of Yilin Xian

On December 21, 2018, Yilin's family was involved in a fatal car accident. The family was rushed to the ER where Yilin's mother, Xiurong Lu, and sister Shanru Xian where later pronounced dead, while Yilin and her father were badly injured.    

 Yilin is a former student of mine who was no stranger to both faculty and students. She is kind and shows much integrity in everything she does towards helping others. Yilin is a hard-working student who is currently enrolled at University of Texas at Austin.   When Yilin was first enrolled in high school  she had all of her goals set in place.  She knew where she wanted to go to college, she knew what she wanted to major in and began planning for the future to meet her goals.   While in high school, she was very determined to be the best she could be. Yilin was active in student council among many other activities, and she also volunteered at the AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) where she worked with UT physicians, Texas A&M Nutrition Specialists, and senior citizens interpreting from English to Chinese.  

No one is ever prepared for such a tragedy and devastating occurrence. Since Yilin's father is the sole provider of the family, right now he is unable to work due to injury. It is very difficult for the family to cover all the expenses.

Yilin was life flighted to Memorial Herman Trauma Center and the family has received the bill of $38,429, and the medical bill for her brief stay there is another $15,000. The family is trying to raise $50,000 for the funeral services and another $50,000 for the medical expenses and current day to day bills.
