Family of Six Facing Homelessness
Donation protected
Toya, her husband, Clifton, and their four kids (all under four years old) were living in Amelia, Virginia when the pandemic hit. They had stable housing with enough room for their children and steady employment. Then the pandemic hit. As with so many other folks who were laid off this year, things got bad quickly. Their landlord was unwilling to work with them and evicted them in the middle of a global pandemic. Currently, the family of six is staying in an overcrowded motel room on the Southside of Richmond. The motel is $60 a day – not a financially sustainable solution. The City of Richmond ruled to close the Winter Homeless Shelter this year and has yet to come up with a functioning alternative. No one deserves to struggle through the winter on the street, least of all young children. This situation is urgent. The family is hoping to raise enough money for a security deposit and two month's worth of rent. Clifton works painting houses throughout the day and is seeking steady employment while they look for housing. Any leads on jobs and affordable, stable housing are greatly appreciated! Toya and her family are SO grateful for any support that they receive in this extremely stressful and scary time.
